I thought it was rosewood, but I thought rosewood was darker. Could just be the picture.
Rosewood is an organic substance,it varies. Some are light,some are dark. Just google rosewood and see how many different variations you get.
Yea, it does. It's been posted for a couple weeks. Maybe I can talk him down to $350.
I'm not sure. The one pictured is Mexican made. They may have made a 60th. Anniversary American Jazz. Maybe someone else would know.
I think Fender just put a 60th anniversary badge on the back of the headstock on everything made in 06? or whatever year was the 60th.

These basses are priced like regular Standard Jazz Basses and I've seen the MIM ones used for 300 bucks. MIA's go for 650-700.
Don't think it's a good deal at all.
And yes, some kind of rosewood...

That is a Classic Series 60's Jazz Bass, MIM... These are very nice basses. New they are $799 It's not unusual to see them sell for $500 -$600 I think $400 is a very low price if it is in good condition. The dark tinted headstock is one of the most recognizeable features. If you clean and oil the rosewood fretboard it will probably get darker.

+1 it's definitely a Classic 60's Jazz Bass. The logo and the fact that there's no truss rod adjustment at the headstock are dead giveaways. Good price at $400
Well from that picture it is hard to tell what it is. I can't tell if it has the vintage style tuners or not. It is definitely a MIM jazz bass. I believe all the fenders produced in 2006 had a 60th anniversary badge on the back of the headstock. Some of the MIM stuff is nice. (Seems hit or miss to me). But collectable????
Even American standards aren't collectable. At least i wouldn't consider them collectables. A new MIM standard jazz is 599.99. If its in great shape and it is a standard 400 isn't terrible but it could be lower. A new 60's classic jazz is 799.99. If its one of those 400 doesn't seem bad at all.Find out what it is and check it out before you buy it if possible.

I agree. I played an American Standard two weeks ago and the quality was sub-par. The frets even scratched me.
Then I picked up one of those Squier Vintage Modified 70's Jazzes and it played and felt beautiful, despite the entry-level hardware.
So, I say go play it! Then make up your mind.
I would pay $400 for a MIM Classic Series 60's Jazz without having to play it ... they run very consistent ... I have owned a few of these, and prefer the 01-02's for some reason, but it is a very good buy at $400 ... just make sure you like a small radius neck with vintage frets .. the fit and finish on these is fantastic ... the color on this one looks a little different than most I have seen, but the neck/headstock tint looks right, as does the truss at heel .. cant tell on the logo as is it is a bit too far away for an old timer, as is the bridge to see threaded saddles ... stems on tuners look legitimately longer (reverse tuners) ... I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the back of the body to convince me that the body was right ... the color of body and p/g looks a little off though .. but then the p/g was a little different on the earlier ones ...
