What does Essex's "SX" stand for?

I just recently picked up a 5er lined fretless SX Vintage series...
Changed out Pickups, Bridge, added an Audere JZ3 preamp and switched the pickguard to Tort Red, then string it with Sadowsky Black label steel Flatwounds.

It plays and sounds great!!! I've got lots of great basses and through the store, plenty available... For my first "project" bass.... This turned out great!!!

So what if I got carried away with the dremel making extra room for the battery and put a small hole in the back.... Woops!!! I only paid $95 before the upgrades...

I'll take it to gigs and in the studio.

LOL! I get the feeling you are correct. Or why do we refer to jeans as a "pair" of pants, etc. Perhaps we'll never know, lol.

BTW, I've e-mailed Kurt a couple of questions regarding the name "Shelter" and "SX" vs. "Essex", etc. Hopefully, he can shed some light on the matter.

Well, the Rondo shop (when it was open) was in Essex County, NJ...

Rondo Music was on Rt. 22 in Union which is in Union county NJ.

If you can PM Bongolation, he knows more than anyone that I can think of on the topic of Asian imports. Whether or not he bothers with SX, I can't say for sure since he looks for great deals to invest in to turn for a profit later...I don't think anyone is buying SX for that. But he may have very well picked up some interesting information about SX or Team International is his dealings, or may know someone who can help you out.

That may be another element of hte story. Sun Xaio roomed with Walter Rondo when they were planning on climbing hte Matterhorn together in '49.

Believe it or not, I ran across info in an old SX thread this morning and lost it! I'm pretty sure it said "Shelter" was the brand Team Int. uses in Brazil, instead of SX. Same instruments, different name.

The company was founded by Julie "Mary Poppins" Andrews; she was originally going to call the instruments "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" but was forced to use the nickname "SX" because she was sued by Mr. Arthur W. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious of San Diego, Calif.

Wow - good info. Thank You very much! It's still kind of disappointing that Team Int does not mention that as one of their brands, rebadged or otherwise on their website, even if they are not sold directly in the US through Rondo. Kind of what Cort has done with Laguna I suppose. Anyway, your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks again.
