What does Essex's "SX" stand for?

Now we're getting somewhere. Things are finally starting to flesh out a little. We want more details!

I'm thinking there must be some story behind the pirate bass, for instance.

This is where the Julie Andrews thing ties in. It seems that her cousin, MArtin Andrews, who originally used the term supercalifragilisticexpialadocious to describe a tear in the mainsail of his vessel was in fact a pirate. When Walter Rondo heard this he felt obliged to design the pirate bass in tribute. Kevin Bacon is only a few degrees away.

Already there...

Kevin Bacon starred in the 1991 movie "Pyrates"

and that concludes the thread I believe.

LOL - before the thread ends, I wanted to post Kurt's response to the ESSEX or SX & Shelter questions I had for him. It seems (as mundane as it is) that both terms ESSEX & SX are correct. It is just what it appears to be - a shortened name change, as most have stated. Would explain why I have never seen "Essex" printed directly on any basses, only "SX" - the earliest SX I have purchased was about 5 years ago. There are a couple of interesting tidbits included in the reply that I was unaware of...

Here is Kurt's reply:

Team international originally named the line ESSEX
The then renamed it to SX around 2000 or 2001 - I have lots of guitars out there with the "ESSEX" on the head stock - the two most popular models were the EG 260 and 270

Team builds the guitars for US in the US and Canada - they build the Team products (SX, Valencia, CNB) for many other suppliers in other countries and do some custom work. For example - the SX Callisto is only available from Rondo Music - no other company has that model - I think that's the shelter model origin.

Here is Kurt reply:

Kurt was forced to tell that story by the Chinese in order to cover up the true conspiracy theory.

If lousybassplayer can get clearance from the Agency, he could tell us the bottom line; assuming he can get international protection.

LOL - I hope to hear from from him once he is on the international witness protection program. He seems to have quality information from an insiders take on the situation. :D

What isn't common knowledge is that lousybassplayer is an agent of miss-information and is, in fact, contracted by Fender. If you'll notice that he joined the forum in January 2009 on a short pro-bono trial contract. He obviously was successful in fooling everyone to believe that he's an unassuming bass player (a self-deprecating one according to his user name which was a brilliant stroke of genius to get sympathy and acceptance) so he was able to negotiate a very high-dollar contract with Fender and a couple of months later, Fender had to increase the prices of their product line in order to afford and employ people like him.

Coincidence?... conspiracy theory?... it only looks that way because he brilliantly planned it that way.

I did some Wiki research on lousybassplayer - not much to find, but it did say he studied martial arts for several years as a star student of Chuck Norris. Skills a supposed, self-proclaimed "lousybassplayer" would require, or skills a mastermind agent of deception would require? :eyebrow:

I've played a few places where mad skillz at martial arts would have been useful.

What if Diogenes is a secret agent for Gibson and is trying to make Lousybassplayer look like a sercret agent so that we wont notice that he has been turning to TalkBass clubs against each other and there will soon be a huge club war? Coincidence indeed me friend.

I don't what the "SX" stands for (yet), but I believe that a whole lot of misinformation is being passed off as fact. Jokes aside, SX is an OEM brand that is licensed to companies, similar to the bundled software that comes with a computer. Don't believe me? Check this link

So it seems everything comes from China!

Interesting! So there is no Essex or SX company. And you really can't point to a single factory where they are made being that Team International OEMs them from multiple factories.

Did you see the pictures of their show room?

So we knew all that. What could be more INTERNATIONAL than Walter Rondo (From Love Canal NY, fled to Essex England), Julie Andrews and her brother (some sort of welsh immigrants I beleive) and Sun Xian, the noted forger. And of course Kevin Bacon, who was born in a research building in Antarctica and came to America via French Guianna in the 70s. Hasn't anyone been paying attention?
