what Effects can you not live without?

When I play my passive Fender P, I can no longer be without the SansAmp Bass Driver DI pedal. I purchased it about a month ago, and it functions as an outboard preamp, direct-in box, and tube emulator. The sound that comes out of it is kind of compressed as well.
I'm in this boat too, I play several different 5 string basses through a bunch of mis-matched amps and speakers. I have the SansAmp bass Driver DI PRO and things always sound better with it.

Overdrive, and preferably 3 levels of it is where its at for me....

After much $$$$ spent on pedals I ended up with the same setup I had last summer, the Swell Bpro with channel 1 warm, just barely breaking up when digging in, channel 2 noticeable overdrive sound into the bk butler Real tube overdrive for almost distortion/lead sound...

I've kinda came to the conclusion that fuzz isn't for me, so I have no true fuzz pedal right now, though I still have my DOD bass grunge, hardwire valve distortion and fulltone OCD(which I'll probably never sell)...

I feed my 3 levels of gain into my B7K then into my GK800 RB, and I honestly the rest is cool but not real necessary for me except the tuner

all my pedals have been in the pawnshop. so none. but if i had to choose one it would be fuzz. but it's not like i use it more in the band. i'd problem use my octave more, but i love octae down with fuzz.

if i had to choose two it be octave and fuzz. i have a wah and i want to get a chorus with a built in flanger, and a di. for the studio or recordings, i want to get a compressor and eq (imay use the eq live).

and even more pedals after that.

BDDI, comp and OD. The SansAmp BDDI in essence "my sound". I originally bought it to go direct when recording and just figured I would throw it between my bass and amp to see what happened. It has been on my board ever since. The compressor is kinda new to me. It is something I never even considered until I tried one. The overdrive is very mild and not to insulting. I try to dial in a little dirt for live setting. I mostly use it when the guitar player in the 3 piece I am in takes a solo.

After years of trying a boatload of basses, amps, effects and cabs, not to mention the serious $$ wasted "researching", I have found my tone. However, I have to utilize 3 pedals; MS-60b, DHA VT1-bass drive DI and a B7k.

MS-60 = tuner, comp & eq
DHA-VT1 = traditional real tube overdrive and compression
B7k = adds a touch of modern distortion and mojo

So, back to the OP's question.......seriously tough call. Probably the DHA because of the natural tube OD, compression, DI and it has a headphone output.

I would have thought that since this is in the effects forum that it would be a given that this applies to people who actually use effects, but maybe it's just me. I guess if you don't use effects ever, you never get tired of coming on the effects forum and letting everyone know. :rollno:

All of these responses do nothing to help, and are unnecessary.
If you have no business in the effects forum, stay out of the effects forum.

While some of these "I don't use effects" posts might be trolling, I honestly don't think all of them are. There isn't a "No effects" section so their opinion on not using effects apply as much as any other opinion.

I don't need any effects, but I prefer to have a very slight grit in the signal.
It comes from either a bass soul food, dod bass overdrive, ibanez bass tubescreamer or hardwire cm2 dependant on the bass I'm using.

Put me down as another BDDI user. I always play with some dirt on at all times. Funny thing is, when you hear it in the context of the band, it doesn't "sound like" dirt; it just helps the bass "sit" better.

My Eden Navigator pre amp!

and these....

I've owned to fx boxes, ever.
A Mutron, way the heck back in the 70's stolen by a guitar player; and what was maybe an mxr chorus flange I bought when I started playing fretless and discarded shortly after.

I haven't owned any for years and don't see adding any.
