What gear makes you look old?

Full-sleeves and Hawaiian shirts...that would be busy. A definate "look", but not the real me.

Speaking of gear making you look old, nothing screams old school like a blue revolver with wood grips.

Agree on most instruments and amps being pretty much neutral. One man's hip is another man's 'dated'

Clothes are much more telling. For a long time, I used to play gigs in what was once locally considered "hip bass player duds" : boot-cut Levi's over black Dingo boots, white peasant shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and a black leather vest. Back then, I still had a full head of hair, so I never went the hat route. Besides, Real hippies Never wore hats :smug:

Now, THAT'S dated......

Wouldn't be caught dead in an outfit like that these days, although I still have the vest :hiding:

No bérets please for the love of God. I think the French created those stupid hats just to piss me off...nothing looks worse if you ask me.

No gear makes you look old. Even what old guys would have played (Ampeg SVT + Fender P) are still highly regarded and saught after by the "younger crowd".

Ditch the suspenders, both on the pants AND the socks. That'll help.

And I strongly disagree that a Fedora makes you look old. Unless the post said Fodera, in which I case I still disagree. Nothing says awesome like a good hat coupled with a bass worth more than my car.

What is the appeal to those things? I tried one once, got caught up in it by the third song, it pulled the drink off the top of my amp, and was hopelessly tangled by the end of the night. It felt more like a leash than a cable.
