What gear makes you look old?

I don't think it is gear

OK what makes folks look look old....

Hair dyed too dark for their age - looks totally fake

Big bleached hair on women

Suspenders, especially if worn over a white V neck t-shirt. Add 20 more years if matched with oversize polyester plaid shorts, sandals and socks

Comb over

Leather biker jacket that obviously won't close over your belly

Pixie hair cut, tight jeans and t-shirt on woman 40+

SAS or Red Cross shoes

Glasses strap

Large pinky ring

Poncho

ENOUGH......

Pbass with Markbass / Genz Benz rig consisting 1x10, 2x10 or 1x12. Makes you ancient.
Ha, that's true.

P-bass + Ampeg = young enough to carry heavy Ampegs
Active 5-string bass + Markbass/Genz Benz rig = young enough to use modern equipment
Active 5-string bass + Ampeg = young enough for both
P-bass + Markbass/Genz Benz rig = too old for any newfangled inventions unless they mean having to carry less heavy stuff to your gig

Also, old cell phones.

Give these a try: http://www.wedgees.com/ Gotta love the
name. They do work as I can testify.

Cheers,
Doug

We run sound from stage and we rock out. I sweat, my glasses slide, any suggested option other than contacts is appreciated. The black strap seemed functional. Guess that is old.

My opinion is that you are old if you lost your "edge". Surprise 'em with kick ass material, and do them well. Nuff said.

Glasses that fit. No plastic frames ever - metal, with silicone nose pieces.

If in doubt, buy sunglasses with the flexible temple pieces that wrap all the way around the ear.

This worries me. I play music largely to keep young women from thinking I'm old and boring, so this is a very important question, almost as important as what to do with my hair. Should I leave this tuner at home and bring a cheap new one to gigs instead?

Leave your hair at home and bring your tuner. If you're old, you're old and no fancy digital tuner will convince anybody differently.

It's all about the outfit, and maybe the kind of band you play with

In a few years I'll be old enough to be in a "White Guy Blues Band"

While the guitar player will have to wear a floppy hat and a Stratocaster I'll need to grow a beard, put on 50 lbs locate a bunch of vintage Hawaiian shirts and corduroy OP shorts and Birkenstock sandals.

Naturally I'll need a 6 string bass slung at chest height and a rack full of blinking gear to simulate an all tube head with out the weight.

That's really great imagery! BUT you forgot to add croakies' neoprene sunglass strap to the ensemble
