I think that's because everyone can choose multiple genres.

Wasn't sure where to put this, move if necessary, just wondering what everyone considers their MAIN genre. For me it's jazz, maybe fusion as a second. I branch out from there. Curious what the poll results will be.

Home base for me would be the Jazz/R&B fusion era. In my second act as a musician it has been at a CCM/Urban Gospel fusion church bands where I am often called upon to drive the more Blues, Quartet and Southern Gospel sets.

My primary "professional" footprint is all about classic rock. One of my bands dabbles in a little Motown/R&B and I've performed some country - mostly newer country.

Currently in a new project that is soul/funk/blues based with lots of license to re-create. Have also worked with an original jazz-fusion project.

Variety keeps things fresh. So I guess my genre is "music".

I do church gigs, where we do...whatever the song calls for. I don't think I've done reggae at a church yet (I have done it elsewhere), and the list doesn't have hip hop/rap on it, which I definitely have done. Aside from that, check everything on the list.

The thread question, "What genre are you?" is different than the poll question, "what genre suits you?"

The answers are, at least in my case, different.

I voted rock covers and originals, because those constitute the vast majority of what I've played. This has included classic rock, punk, old-school metal, new wave, "indie," rockabilly, and some rock-adjacent pop (Billy Joel, Hall & Oates, Lady Gaga, etc.) and classic R&B. I'm currently in a Grateful Dead cover band, which is almost its own genre.

I'm also comfortable with country and reggae, which I've played on rare occasions, and I've done some musical theater as well.
