What happened to Hadrien Feraud?!

How do you know Jauqo doesn't have the ability to play like that? I've heard Jauqo do some really badass stuff on bass that's totally on par with what Hadrien does IMHO. Sure, he's way outside the norm sometimes, but that's what living with Ornette Coleman will do to you ;)

As for JM, that may be, but on HIS gig, HE rules, and that's how it go, and you can either take the gig or not.

I disagree. Seen the Viceroy YouTube clip?

It's interesting-my wife just came back from her Jazz Piano lesson yesterday and told me her teacher (a great Jazz Pianist who has played with a Major Jazz Guitar Star that I will not name for confidentiality's sake) had played with JM on a project with said MJGS. He told her that JM was extraordinarily hard to jell with for the studio band, played very loud and very busy, played like he wasn't interacting with the players but just blowing chops over everything etc. After a quick huddle and strategy session they managed to get some good stuff but it was a bumpy takeoff for sure. It blew her mind because JM is her (and one of my) favorite guitarists.
Here's another perspective-Kai Eckhardt has said in some interviews that JM could be difficult to work for. I have another Drummer Friend who has done the gig and told me in confidence it could be difficult. If you look at the great bassists JM has had (Hadrien, Jonas, Matt Garrison, Kai, Dominique Di Piazza, Jeff Berlin for a couple of tours etc.) he tends to hire a young band, groom them and then turn them over. It's certainly his prerogative as a leader and Joe Zawinul would do the same thing from all I have heard.
I personally love the crabs in a bucket analogy-not so much as a personal attack on anyone but more a misbehavior we are all guilty of from time to time (especially on internet forums like TB). My wife is a member of a nutritional forum with a large number of women members and they're nowhere near as snarky as guys. I think it's the testosterone and the Inner 8th Grader in most of us, myself included. ;)

Here's my take on this post, Roy... as a leader, JM gets to do that. Doesn't he? Don't like it, don't take the check. Now if taking the gig and repeatedly not doing what was asked was somehow a reflection on JM...
:D

Does any of that change what happened? Truly serious question. Even if he was a total bunghole, if the volume thing happened repeatedly as he and GH said and was the impetus and HF said people here were making it up, what changes?

The crabs in the bucket thing makes sense if you look at this with a serious slant.

Of course he does, it's his gig. None of us were there so we can only rely on interviews, anecdotes and conjecture in this case. I was really surprised when my wife brought that anecdote home-now this is no Hack, he's a great pianist and this was a great gig. It's really not what I was expecting at all.
As to the crabs in a bucket thing, I was the first to out myself with this with the winky thing. Hey, I'm only human....

I knew someone wouldn't, Mike. And that's okay.
:D

Here's why... I'm talking about reality and apparently either mine differs from yours or you aren't looking at it with a clear eye.

First, I haven't heard that he has the ability to play anything, period. I'd even go so far as to say that for better or worse he doesn't have the same music in his head as I have in mine.

Think about it. Now while you might be willing to trade that for his skills, I'm not. I'm at the place I am because of the journey. The same reason he's in the place where he is. Is that also unbelievable?

Look at the reality/facts of it:

1. Do I want to gig with John McLaughlin? Nope. It's not a dream of mine to do that gig. He has a history of going through musicians so it likely it wouldn't be permanent.

2. I'm a married guy in my fifties who has no desire to tour... none.

3. Believe it or not I play what's in my head now. Ask people who know me. :D

4. I got trade shows/seminars/etc. out of my system a while ago. That would bore the crap out of me.

4a. Sycophants bore me too ;)

No offense... maybe it does. Think about it... when doesn't he play like that? And when do people not expect him too?
:)

At my age what good would that do me, Mike? Other than impress my friends, which I'm not all that pressed about anyway?
:D

Again, you're looking at this from the "dream perspective", I'm looking at my reality.

Yes I am happy about that... even when they lie to me and call others out based on a lie. Sorry, I expect better from cats like that. That's why my bass ended up stolen. So sue me.
:D

As if he's the only one.
:hyper:

I don't have the time nor the space for rent in my head to try and put this into perspective for you Brad, because you ALWAYS have the right answer.
And you disect to draw away from what the point is. So I'll simplify for you......

By saying you haven't heard that he has the ability to play, well, you need ears then buddy. That statment alone kinda lends everything else after no validity.
SUBJECTIVELY his style and music may not be your cup-o-tea, but the guy can play. JM and others wouldn't call him if he couldn't. Have you seen any of the clips of him?? If not please do...
And I'm sure the music in your head ISN'T the same in his- I hope it isn't anyway. That would be weird. In a weird non sexy Brad kinda way.:eyebrow:;)

Your items 1 thru 5....whoop.....
Sorry Brad, you may indeed be a fine fine player in your own right, but really, I haven't heard your name mentioned as such around here or anywhere else. Except for rubbing guys the wrong way at times.
And you haven't heard mine mentioned either for the record. :bassist: And really, you won't. I'm not that good and I know it.
I play what I hear in my head too....for some sick reason it's always Mustang Sally...:hmm:

Again, stylistly his music/tone etc may not be your thing, but his technical facility/ability on the instrument is undeniable.
And really, it's not just trade show chops.
Is he the "BEST"...subjective yes/no.....thats easy.
But the guy is a monster player.

I'm outta this. It's going in circles in circles in circles in circles........

MikeBass, you are a funny guy, you're entry into this thread is you challenging something that I wrote without reading the most important part of what I wrote leading you to a wrong conclusion, assuming information was missing that was clearly there and then there's the knowing what people want whether or not they want it or not because you know better. Now you're all pissed off? :D

I take this as you saying that you don't believe the interview with John McLaughlin i.e. words that I'm assuming he cleared to be published, what are we supposed to make of your hearsay? :D

Only because you refuse to clear space for reality. I didn't say he couldn't play... you think he can play ANYTHING. Proof?

Maybe Hadrien has the touch to play authentic Zydeco, I don't know because I haven't heard him do it. Have you?

So many times people have this wack idea that if you can play complicated stuff, you can play anything and that's laughably naive. That's the reality I'm talking about.
:D

Another simple point missed. Shocking.

I tend to rub people who think in boxes that way. I'm cool with that. Boy, I wish I were famous on Talkbass for my admittedly local gigging. I'm cool with just making a living at it.
:bassist:

I didn't say they were. Read the frickin' words for once.
;)

But the guy is a monster player.

Who YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE LIKE. And for the life of you you can't seem to grasp a world where EVERYONE doesn't want the same thing.
:hyper:

Yet you don't want to be like another world class player.

:D

I'm outta this. It's going in circles in circles in circles in circles........

Reading for context opens many doors. The circles are self-inflicted.

Funny indeed. And well-known in these parts.

Not what I said at all, I said we were left with interviews (that would be JM's) , conjecture (the majority of what is here) and anecdotes ( I suppose mine is there). I certainly didn't put one over the other. I really have no dog in this fight so I get no payoff. I guess I'm the Rodney King of Talkbass:"Can't we all just get along?"

I have seen that reality in action. A great smooth jazz player who hates rock and tries to play an AC/DC song can be quite a sad event to witness.

Quotes from Gary Husband too. Just saying.

I think the point you're missing here and why this thread is so long and still going on is that Hadrien posted in this thread in an attempt to attack another poster with a straight up lie. He got called on that and deleted his posts and after that many began attacking other posters because of what they thought was bashing you included as illustrated in this post. I mentioned earlier Hadrien could have just said, "yeah that was a dumb thing to do i.e. not turning down when I was told to.", end of thread, he comes out looking like a stand up guy, but nooooooo!

We all know what he said.................. Its done. Months ago. Maybe your right and maybe not. If a girl breaks up with you what do you do stalk her. Its over. Move on.

I personally think Hadrien is a talented bass player. But for people to get crazy towards other players and their opinion as to why they may not like his playing is no reason at all to call out a lynch mob.

It really makes some of his fans look not so kool.

His fans need to grow some logic and just face the fact that there is no bass player in the history of music who's playing every one likes. To think that because some one doesn't like Hadrien's playing doesn't make that person a bad person.

No no no no.... Just the JM band thing is getting to me. We all know how each other feels over it. We just need to stop it. I don't think if you don't like his playing as anything but just that. I may not had mentioned the JM Band but I take it that its related to all my threads or at least most of them. I respect if you don't like his playing cause, its to fast, not my cup of tea, sound to guitar like, style isn't cool, not into his jazz, sound, amp choice or even cause he has to many pimples. Whatever it is. But when some attack his character it just isn't right. We have to stand by his playing not his personality. The whole thing with him and JM. Like most lawyers say, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I feel his playing is amazing but I don't judge you personality or character if you think the opposite. I like your playing also and i think you are saying something and i wish you the best with it. So I want to make that clear.

Thank you and for the bashers in this thread, maybe one day they will understand that at the end of the day it doesn't matter if some one likes what we (bass players) do or not as long as we keep doing it.

I see you posting here, why aren't you taking your own advice? :D Stalking??? But yet, here you are.

Hello , my name is Yer i'm a woman and i'm happy to meet you

I beg you to accept my approximate English, just enough to make me understand

To Whom It May Concern ,

After reading this exciting novel ..
I signed and I decided to tell my opinion about that thread . It's a one shot .

What emerges from this pathetic thread , is the obsessive attitude from some guys and in particular Phil Smith's and Brad Johnson . There are a considerable and exaggerated number of posts , coming from both , all posts with a touch of arrogance .. that is hateful .

Hadrien has explained what happened when he was not obliged to justify anything to anyone here.
this may be why he has deleted his comment ,when he realized that he had no justifications to give to strangers as P Smith , Brad Johnson or jauqo and some others , who are not friends in any ways ..

The fact that HF minimizes the reason given by JML (playing too loud) , is not insignificant .
But only Hadrien , JML manager and JML himself knows the true reasons ...I know what i'm talking about . There are commercial ( business ) reasons that we can give to the world and other personal reasons that we keep for ourself
Just read all the press during the American tour and see the titles of some newspapers ... maybe this will help you to understand something . " play loud " was maybe only a pretext ? Think on this and you can open a brand new thread for that . this will keep you busy for some times .
Anyway, JML is the boss and he has made a decision, everyone respects that. End of the story .

Now , you , P Smith , who are you to allow you that attitude toward someone you don't know ? ? You judge him for what ? What is your personal problem ? That's incredible , are you working as a police officer , a detective ? court judge ? Scriptwriter ? Denigration, harassment , hate, destruction , gossip , lessons giver ... you remind me of a company to work in all genres, but with no specialty ... Who allows you to spend your time to bash someone who is not there ? who do you think you are to act this way ? Be a big boy and go talk to him face to face ...

P Smith , You became a manic obsessive on H Feraud and it turns to ridiculous now .If you allow me a suggestion , a good doctor could arrange that for you .
It has been brought to my attention that H F is not the only one on which you spend your days as a stalker and , unfortunately , he will not be the last ...
If to act like that gives you pleasure , that means you do not have much to do in your life .
- As they say here, the shortest jokes are always the best ...
and also : - The dogs bark and the caravan moves on ...

It seems that To be bashed on TalkBass is now almost a badge of honor ?

Hadrien should thank you for this free advertising . Thanks to Mr Feraud , you may be known on an international level now ..

Thanks to many gentlemen here , that do their best to avoid this thread become a massacre .

Good luck guys .
