Hadrien losing the JM gig(it happens)was a build up of things taking place over a while. He did not get fired over a one time incident.

If you hired some one and they continue to do one thing or several things that you continue to ask them not to do, what would you do?

Apparently, depending on how big a fan he was... just put up with it.
:D

Why hasn't a moderator locked this thread yet? It has taken so many twists and turns, personal attacks, and a ton of deleted posts. HF got fired, big deal, it looks like he is still putting food on the table. This thread really just has people all bent out of shape against each other. Putting this guy on blast doesn't help talkbass either. I like the notion that these high profile guys are on talkbass sharing experiences, insight etc. Don't scare them all away.

There haven't been that many deleted posts.

Does integrity matter? Just curious.

Ok...seriously....you dont wish to have a brilliant technical command of your instrument. A tremondous knowlage of music that would align you with some of the best players like JM asking you to play on their record and tour with?
To have the ability to pretty much play just about whatever you would hear in your head?
Sorry Brad, dont buy it.

Subjective- but he's one of the hottest players out right now.
To play like that doesnt mean you HAVE to.

Thats like playing pickup basketball and saying, I dont wish I played like Kobe Bryant.

Bad judgment is bad judgment....he was bounced from a gig. He spun it his way.

And like someone else has said, to have a cat like him actually post on here....cmon people. We should be happy he would take the time to communicate with us on a someone personal level like this.

Yeah, mods, shut this down.
We have a top shelf world class player who posts on here. End this mess please.

Obviously Hadrien came on and made some bullsh1t statements about it had nothing to do with his volume and he was called out on it and scurried away like a hurt deer. Do I think he has integrity based on that? Nope A big ego trying to lie and defend something that wasn't true...yup. The guy got in over his head here and had a bullseye on his back right out of the gate. It just seems like this thread took a direction way outside what has happened to Hadrien Feraud

I guess you know better than Brad. :D

Maybe you want to be like Mike.

I do get that some people don't mind people just saying any old thing, I'm just not one of them. If your contribution is to try do dis another member with a lie, you don't really need to bother posting.

+1

Also, a part of his contribution has been to shoot downright insulting PMs to people who have posted anything short of absolute high praise of him here, even if they explicitly state that they like some of his stuff and are only stating their very personal opinions.

What's interesting is that Hadrien called me a liar (in actuality he was the one who lied or maybe he forgot that he did indeed get fired). Then his fan boys went and got the lynch mob together to attack me and other members here and no one suggested that the mods close the thread. Me, Mike, Brad, Phil and all the other members of tb here are deserving to be treated as a person just as Hadrien is no matter if we haven't worked with some of the so called greats or legends.

And I'm sure there's a few in this very thread who has worked with a few of the greats, myself included.

No, but when someone says they dont want to have great ability on many levels, it doesnt make logical sense. At all.
But I guess if your goal is to just hit 5.3 out of 10 and strive for mediocrity, then go for it.
One may not desire to play like that in that vein or style, but to wish too NOT be on that level......well.......:rollno:

NO one wants to be like me....err..wait....;)

I understand.
At the same time to come on and just "dis" because youre not a fan doesnt make sense either.
But it happens all the time.

The point I'm making is the Hadrien though a great player is not the be all or end all to bass playing, not by a long shot and everybody doesn't want to be like him or play like him not to mention act like him.

Mike as in Michael Jordan, in keeping with the basketball player analogy. :D

Yeah, but I don't think that's what happened here.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think he's end all/be all....thats a subjective decision on a listener.
And to not want to play in that manner or fashion I get as well. I don't aspire nor want to play like Victor Wooten, but wish the hell I could.
I'd rather be like Will Lee myself.

You mean you were not..... talking about me?!?????:bawl:

Yeah, but I don't think that's what happened here.
It kinda did. Or at least turned that way.

I, for one, do not want to play like HF. Sure, he is a very talented player, but his voice is his own. I have never been influenced by any player to the degree that I mimic their playing style (except Jauqo III-X, but that's another subject, LOL!), lines, or runs. I very seldom do covers. I picked up the instrument to become the best bass player that I could become, not the best imitator of another player. I laugh when people cringe when I mention the fact that, even though I grew up listening to Weather Report, Jaco was not an influence. I also grew up listening to Brothers Johnson, but I only grabbed one LJ bass line...and that was to teach it to my daughter (that was actually on a Michael Jackson tune)!

My point is this, let a good player be a good player. Admiration on your behalf does not equate to a necessity on mine. My disagreement may or may not be based on personal experience with the individual, the stylings of the individual, my level of musical experience, my level of musical experience with the stylings....blah, blah, blah.

It is not only subjective, but it is also relative.

Let me clairify better....not to BE or carbon copy him, just have that ability.

You WOULDN'T want that ability to play like that??

It's interesting-my wife just came back from her Jazz Piano lesson yesterday and told me her teacher (a great Jazz Pianist who has played with a Major Jazz Guitar Star that I will not name for confidentiality's sake) had played with JM on a project with said MJGS. He told her that JM was extraordinarily hard to jell with for the studio band, played very loud and very busy, played like he wasn't interacting with the players but just blowing chops over everything etc. After a quick huddle and strategy session they managed to get some good stuff but it was a bumpy takeoff for sure. It blew her mind because JM is her (and one of my) favorite guitarists.
Here's another perspective-Kai Eckhardt has said in some interviews that JM could be difficult to work for. I have another Drummer Friend who has done the gig and told me in confidence it could be difficult. If you look at the great bassists JM has had (Hadrien, Jonas, Matt Garrison, Kai, Dominique Di Piazza, Jeff Berlin for a couple of tours etc.) he tends to hire a young band, groom them and then turn them over. It's certainly his prerogative as a leader and Joe Zawinul would do the same thing from all I have heard.
I personally love the crabs in a bucket analogy-not so much as a personal attack on anyone but more a misbehavior we are all guilty of from time to time (especially on internet forums like TB). My wife is a member of a nutritional forum with a large number of women members and they're nowhere near as snarky as guys. I think it's the testosterone and the Inner 8th Grader in most of us, myself included. ;)
