What happened to TB?

I remember last May like it was yesterday. The information flowed like Peach Schnaps in a 90's jr. high dance, Nobody hadn't been banished yet for exuberantly endorsing all things tort, and the air was thick with praise for Squier Squier VM-more Squier, since Sire was just a glistening twinkle in Marcus Millers moustache. Damn I'm gonna cry it was like old school utopia. Wait, I'm being part of the problem instead of the solution TRY FLATWOUNDS and get a dargie delight MM and check out this new cab company called Avatar and ask Mike Watt...
... and there ya go.

it appears that some people here have never spent much time at other boards. this one is friendlier, more informative, has a higher percentage of experienced players and gear heads who are willing to help out than any other i've seen.

yes, there are also people joking around and discussing non-bass stuff, but that's because talkbass isn't just a board - it's truly (at least, to me) a community. and yes, there are some snarky people and trolls, but you'll find them in any community, online or not.

I'm a half-assed player and I'm insulted by the OPs post. If I'm unable to find bass player enlightenment here, where should I look? Too bad I'm too new to TB to have enjoyed the good 'ol days.... I always seem to miss them.

RicoTheBassMan, don't let this thread cast a weird shadow. TB is cool, fun, and you can learn a lot. I've been playing for decades and I still think this forum has lots of value, and there are some really cool people on here. AND you can make dumb jokes with other musicians. TB's not exempt from weird internet arguments, but I guarantee you you ask something like "I'm new to playing modern country bass, what's the standard type of gear needed and how should I approach these basslines and my tone?" or whatever, and you'll get a ton of great responses and can then ask more questions...

Sorry....I was actually being sarcastic. TB has gotten me out of the blocks on my move to fretless. I also got great guidance on some do-it-yourself jobs. My sense of humor is on the dry side!

Been here a short while, got some good advice, added my £0.02 worth where I hope it was relevant (or at least humorous,) jobs a good'n. Sarcasm received and given both = zero as far as I can remember...and I would remember. ;) Seems like a friendly enough place to me.

No one is gonna mess with you given your beard, which pretty much proclaims, "Just try it.'

Talking beards rock!

What happened to TB? I remember when this forum was filled with knowledgeable experienced bassist that could give good advice and opinions.

This forum has turned into a Facebook alternative for a bunch of halve ass players that post comments that don't know what the "F" there talking about.....what happened?

I'd hate to be a new member and not know how cool this place use to be.......

This is true - TB is rubbish; the average post is junk; the "Two-and-a-Half Men" of discussions.

I mean, you can get some good info though the majority is just mindless rambling........which I guess is what people want

Good question.....not tellin though.....doesn't matter.....let's stay on topic
Not sure what the point is ? Are you just bored or do you have anything constructive to say ? I second what Pcake said about this board's members - they tend to be very helpful and much more friendly and considerate than most forums I've checked out . If you have a complaint as it seems you do - offer a remedial suggestion or find another place to hang out where you'll be happier ...

Here's a fun idea- how about you do tell us, or you'll be banned for multiple accounts

Look on the bright side- if you were banned years ago, then getting banned again should remind you of the good ol' days of TB ;)
