What happened to TB?

To a great extent I agree. There are a ton of trolls just waiting in the wings to start in with the crap. There are good posts and people on here, but a huge bunch of turdflingers just looking to pounce. If they can't find anything better, they get all self righteous over a grammar or spelling mistake. And talkbass is made fun of and hated on so many other bass forums it's crazy. I hang around loosely, and just ignore the constant flamers. I will throw a funny meme up or a witty joke, but i don't go out of my way just to demoralize or ridicule someone (violation of the seldom enforced rule #1). The exception is Luthiers corner- those are the best bunch on this entire forum, genuinely helpful & pleasant folks. Now get off my law, you jerkweasels..........

What happened to TB? I remember when this forum was filled with knowledgeable experienced bassist that could give good advice and opinions...

I'm calling BS here. There's plenty of good information on this site - I've been here in different incarnations a few times over the years - always find something interesting and useful. And if I put up a question, I know within 48 hours it will be well answered by knowledgeable members.

When there are more people on such a site, which is what happens over time on a good site, overall quality might be diminished, but that just means you have to spend a bit more time to find the good stuff - that doesn't mean it's not there.

Time was a feller could sell an Alleva Coppolo bass within minutes ... ditto one of them there 'Skadooski' basses. Hell, I remember when it was a rite of passage to have gotten into an argument with Brad Johnson. And when even the most benign comment from Jacquo-IIIX Nine'er/2x6 was taken out of context, and next thing you knew people some how thought his post on fretless bass in free form music was somehow an anti-semitic diatribe. I remember when Tom Bowlus only had a small closet full of gear, and not the Super Walmart size basement he has now.

Things change ...

I do miss all them 'why fodera' threads, and ditto the 'I'm gonna just say it, I don't like Jaco' threads.

I'd type more, but I need a free hand to wipe the tears off my face.

Carrots.

Maybe people have formed worse "Internet habits". I'm not a user of any social media and I've been on the net since the early days (think Netscape, shareware, and porn was still images that loaded slowly).

Now, memes and trolls and flame wars (fanboi-ism) are a regular thing. When TB was new, the net was still in it's age of innocence. Now that standard patterns of use have emerged, they have become part of TB.

That, and people, when totally anonymous, tend to suck more than normal (which is a lot).

This forum has turned into a Facebook alternative for a bunch of halve ass players that post comments that don't know what the "F" there talking about.....what happened?

I'd hate to be a new member and not know how cool this place use to be.......
Perfect example of a Facebook Blast if you ask me...:rollno:

"Calling BS"

Huh?

He post is aimed at people who say "calling bs"

I love TB. Been a member since 09 (i think) and tons of good dudes (and gals!) here that are willing to help.

I know that lots here have been very gracious and generous when helping me out with my questions, no matter how silly my questions were...;) I try to return the favor by adding some value to threads where i can (i don't always succeed...).

One of the more important lessons i learned, was thick skin. I just ignore individuals/trolls/topics that i have no interest in and focus on what is important to me.

Good Luck! (and don't give up on TB!)

And FWIW, TB is no different than it ever was, with the exception of more people. I've been here longer than most, and stayed active through my entire membership.
We've always had trolls, smartasses, and guys who would walk the disrespect line perfectly so they couldn't be banned but still manage to be horrendous douchenozzles. Always.
We've always had a ton of players, both amateur, professional, and big name, who freely shared their knowledge of gear, theory, and music history whilst also being great guys. Always.

If you're not seeing the good stuff you want, you're not looking. The number of folks that visit General Instruction, Technique, and Recordings is staggeringly smaller than those who visit OT or Basses. The knowledge and knowledgeable people are there. You just have to stop being lazy and expecting them to come to you.

TB is a great community, I 've learned a ton, gotten good advice, bought way more gear than I need. Taken some time to learn to ignore the troll and jerk posts though. If its not benefiting you you're not looking hard enough or you are in one of the two above categories.

This is my bass family. Now get off my lawn.
