What happened to TB?

As much as I have been the culprit of some stupid posts, I would have to say I agree. This site has become nothing but a type of "complaint" thread. I know allot of people would say I'm trolling with what I post, but I don't think they are being much better by just complaining about it. If I don't like a movie I'm watching I just stop watching the movie. Not bitch about how dumb or offensive it is. I've got better things to do than to just complain all the time. I am a new person to this thread, I've also only been playing bass guitar for three years. I'm still technically a beginners level and that's how we learn things by asking questions. I've also noticed this site is more dick heavy than even Facebook can get. You mentioned something controversial on Facebook, it starts a heated discussion, but if you do so much as ask A simple question like "what brand of bass amplifier do you like" it's like the Vietnam war all over again only this time on the Internet. I really wish Internet people would have better things to do than just complain all the time

almost completely irrelavant, but this thread reminds me of raising kids ... the older they got, the smarter I seemed to get in their eyes .. it was amazing how little I knew about anything when they were teenagers ... now they are approaching 40 with kids of their own, they are starting to understand ...

.. give it time OP, you will again find the wisdom through all ruffles ... or maybe you will just become more efficient at realizing who and what posters you want to pay attention to, and kind of weed through the rest to find the place wisdom is still harboring ... ;)

I'm a recent member and I think it's great here! I learn a wealth of information about bass and other cool stuff from pretty cool, decent dudes and I also like the out of hand chaos sometimes considering I;m on another forum that is almost always in a state of organized chaos in the same fashion and I didn't expect to see it here.

TL;DR- This place is rad.

Buy some popcorn....this could get interesting

Not at this rate....but here's something that merits investigation and fits nicely under the category of Miscellaneous: the Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator.

A multi-national interest spent a gazillion dollars to build a 17 mile tunnel to smash protons (...must be like pumpkins only smaller). They are not fully able to explain what appears to be loss of mass during these events. Well, I've been able to pull off the same stunt with a $400 Maytag dryer and at velocities well-below the speed of light. This can be the only reason I'm missing one sock when a load is finished. As I figure it, I'm somehow creating a small black hole and the garment is thrust into a parallel dimension. There's probably an entire cluster of mismatched GoldToes orbiting Neptune...and I want them back.

Let me see if I can understand your reasoning. 6 weeks ago you posted this:

The reasons I love Talkbass

You've been here less than a year and whining that there are no knowledgeable players here. Obviously, you don't know how to search the archives.

If you are going to make a statement like that. you'd better have facts to back what you are sayin' and don't spit into the wind.

Granted.. I was at the top of my game 25-30 years ago when I put it all away to raise a family. Only recently wiped the attic dust away to help a burgeoning youth worship group in my church. Felt that old spark and found my way here. Heaven knows I don't have the chops I once did. My priorities are elsewhere these days. But I have seen similar complaints about the old TB in different posts here. I wasn't there and cannot comment on it.... But while there seems to be the occasional ribbing and light hearted comments here, I have grown in my useful knowledge tenfold thru some of the invaluable commenters here..... But really, we are talking about bass playing here. This isn't deep philosophical stuff. We play bass for fun and enjoyment. I believe most commenters offer information from that perspective here. I greatly appreciate the folks here and what they have given me thru their knowledge.

Right....you got it!

TB is supposed to be for friendly advice (that's the way it was), not about everyone who can make some sort of sarcastic remark when given the opportunity

What happened to TB? I remember when this forum was filled with knowledgeable experienced bassist that could give good advice and opinions.

This forum has turned into a Facebook alternative for a bunch of halve ass players that post comments that don't know what the "F" there talking about.....what happened?

I'd hate to be a new member and not know how cool this place use to be.......

I find TB extremely useful and friendly.
Sure, you find some dumb or irrelevant posts and just a few months ago an almost cult like following of a certain member known for starting goofy topics, but that is definitely in the minority.

I've found tons of help with gear, technique, building, painting, effects, band advice, promoter advice, setup info, etc., so on, and so forth.

I remember last May like it was yesterday. The information flowed like Peach Schnaps in a 90's jr. high dance, Nobody hadn't been banished yet for exuberantly endorsing all things tort, and the air was thick with praise for Squier Squier VM-more Squier, since Sire was just a glistening twinkle in Marcus Millers moustache. Damn I'm gonna cry it was like old school utopia. Wait, I'm being part of the problem instead of the solution TRY FLATWOUNDS and get a dargie delight MM and check out this new cab company called Avatar and ask Mike Watt...
