What happens to old basses?

What happens to old basses? You see new basses being sold all the time! Old ones sleeping in cases under beds?

Geddy Lee bought them all.

I think they eventually just get thrown away.

I have often wondered what happened to all of those thousands and thousands of Charvel, Cort, Aria Pro II, Kramer, pointy Carvin etc. basses that you couldn't get away from in the 80s and 90s. They all had to go SOMEWHERE. My guess is the garbage.

Over the years, I've scavenged so many necks, so much hardware, and so many pickups and parts from those it's not even funny...

Hi,

I think the truth MUST be revealed...

All of the old basses (and guitars, like the ones in the dumpster photo) are trucked to a processing center, ground up in wood chippers, and sent to the carrot farms to be used as mulch and fertillizer.

So you can truthfully tell your kids that Daddy's old bass was sent to a farm out in the country where it has plenty of room to play...

"Don't eat Soilent Tort! It's basses!"
