What have you learned from Talk Bass?

If you're into it, chances are there's a club on TB for it. I've learned a great deal about instruments in my possession from the tribe leaders in Gibson Thunderbird-land, Washburn-ia, Danelectro Village and Ovation City.
No matter how quickly I can type an answer to someone's question, somebody always beats me to it and I feel dumb for posting the same thing the guy before me just said.... And I can type pretty fast.
But that being said, whenever I have a question people jump right in to help me out pretty darn fast as well.
And I got alot of help from everyone here picking out my BergCN212- a purchase I couldnt be happier with.

I've learned about many fun items that can be mail ordered that are not found in music stores.
I have also learned that Canadian luthiers seem to all be awesome - maybe it's the excellent wood sources?
I also found out that everybody on this forum knows about brands like Genz Benz but that if I walk into a club or rehearsal studio with one nobody will recognize it! I'm sure this is also true of boutique basses.

1. The P-Bass is king.
2. Tort guards rule.
3. Guitar Center is crap.
4. Learned about Lead Singer's Disease (LSD)
5. GAS never ends.
6. There is no "right" bass for any given genre.
7. The flats Vs rounds debate still rages.
8. Never mix speaker sizes.
9. JohnK does AWESOME work.
10. Never listen with your eyes.

One of the best areas of knowledge I learned about was the reasoning behind a 3-way bass cab design, and about the mighty 3015LF, fEARful, Fearless, Audiokinesis, and Barefaced cabinets.
The other really deep body of knowledge I've been introduced to is bass effects, in particular boutique builders, how to use dirt on bass, and how to power a pedalboard, and just how amazing some of the music created by effect-heavy electric bass can be.
I have picked up a few tidbits on theory, too, although not as much as I had originally thought I would. I guess I already had a fair grasp of beginning through intermediate music theory, and the higher concepts are harder to get through a forum.

I've learned that there is apparently a TB flavor of the week, though I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell it is. I just know people rail against it and that makes them rugged and interesting individuals.
Fender makes the highest quality bass in the land no matter what the cost ( 30k+)

Don't forget that cabinets with 10s are better than 15s unless you can only have one or two. 18s are always awful except when they aren't.
And, the most important thing I have learned here is that I really need a Grainiax.
That going for a GK was the best choice for me.
Seriously, thanks to you guys here, and reading a lot of what you all post, taking in all your knowledge and experience... I made the right choice for an amp all those years ago, and couldn't imagine having anything else as my main rig.
Love plenty of other amps. But this one was just a perfect fit at first try. =]

Kinda figured that. LOL. We used to play at the Hi-Cees/Blackbeard's BBQ in your neck of the woods on a somewhat regular basis. 5YDG is on hiatus while my guitar player continues to recover from back surgery and I assist in taking care of my mother-in-law (whom I love dearly). The 'Dog will bark again. In the meantime I have the usual TB-induced G.A.S. to keep me occupied. Don't worry 'bout me, folks.
