One of Jaco's earliest influences was a local bassist, Carlos Garcia (band was Nimo Spliff).
Garcia had that staccato, 1/16th note funk thing going on...with a P-bass.

Dug that...and it reminded me of a local guy in the '70s named Benny Bialy. Funky, staccato, 1/16th note grooves on a '59 Fender P. The guy and that band were beasts!
