What is a Lakland?

I couldn't help it....On the topic, however, I do really want to try a Lakland, but all I've got in my area is crummy ol' guitar center, which isn't that crummy at all, but doesn't have laklands. Do samash stores usually have them? The nearest one to me is in New Haven, and it's a bit of a drive to make just to try a bass, but maybe I could purchase something while I'm there. I like Laklands...maybe not the headstock, but I think the bridge is pretty cool.

The New Haven Sam Ash has Laklands VERY rarely now. They used to have 2-3 in stock all the time. Then they got pulled last fall IIRC. The last time I was in there (July maybe?) they had one on hand again. I have no idea if its still there though. You might want to call and ask before you drive down there.

I'm very intrigued with Laklands but I cant afford a USA model. I'll have to start with a Skyline when the time comes.

I'm glad people in here posted the 44/55-94s and such. I think some people assume Lakland ONLY makes the Fender-style Jazz and P basses... They got a few more original designs too you know. Such as the 44/55-94s already posted, the Decade, and my personal favorite:

How 'bout those SX basses, anybody every played one of those?
:hiding:

Even though they're a boutique bass (the headstock clearly states "Handmade") that nobody has ever heard of I gig my SXs quite often. But the really funny part is that after one of the gigs I was asked if it was a Lakland... nuclear orange neck and all.

And hey, Jens! Stop signing my name to your posts... I find that very annoying!

We've had quite a few threads round here recently saying something to the affect of "People like this. I don't see the point. Why?"
Then wonder why they're being yelled at. Maybe we should put it in the rules or inform people not to do this when people sign up.

People like threads like this. I don't see the point. Why?

:p

yea, I'm finally up and about. Anywho all those that responded sensibly thanks. I've learned a lot about "LAKLANDs and appreciate the "good" information. I never thought of going to their web site 'cause I thought it was a model, duh!. Funny thing is, even Lakland's website refers to the 44-64 as a "P-Bass yada, yada, yada", so they enforce the brand and legacy right on their own site, funny!

Gotta move on....but, seriusly, WHY IS THE FLAMINGO CARRYING A PAINTING?

Seriously, I didn't know what a Lakland was until I joined this site...didn't affect my playing in the least.
