What is a Lakland?

Lak's are cool, but damn I hate those bridges...

I did too......

until I played my first Lakland, then it was like.... I dunno... that weird flaw that all the most beautiful things have: Julia Robert's huge mouth, Cindy Crawford's mole, I could go on....

now, all my favorite basses have that BEAUTIFUL oval bridge that used to turn me off, LOL!!

Let's see fu22ba55 - jazznfunk definitely the sharpest two tacks on this forum! You guys should be really proud of your responses.

Haters gonna hate, trolls gonna troll. The OP just asked an honest question in an inflammatory way and deserved a bit of good-natured ribbing.

I gave an honest response after I had a bit of fun. (post #9).

Noobs post here, and veterans post here. You get what you give. The OP's question was poorly worded, yet it still got answered on the first page.

Moving on...

I'm only making things worse by posting this, but has anyone noticed how these kind of threads attract more posts (i.e. attention/interaction) than any other (usually more serious) threads :hmm:?

This thread has had over 70 posts since this morning and hasn't shifted from the top few threads on the 'Bass Guitars' page.

Maybe if those of us who know better (yes, I include myself in that statement) just didn't respond at all, it would ultimately improve the quality of threads on such topics. I know nothing (and don't infer anything) about the OPs real intentions, but I'm certain that if he had only got one or two (sensible) replies and the thread had dropped right off the first page (like most if mine do :p), then he would either have been happy to have simply got his answers and avoided all of the flaming, or if he was seeking attention, would have thought harder about the quality of the next question he posted. Either way, I think that we all have to share any 'blame' for the frequency of threads like these.

:hiding:

Thanks a lot - I didn't know Laklands were so well respected in the industry and such a fine piece of machinery. I respect quality so it's definitely a brand i want to learn more about. I "know" their not identical to a Fender but I like the looks. I found out from my friend it's a 44-64 is that a pretty decent model?

The 44-64 is based on a '64 Fender P-bass(notice my avatar:smug:). Bob Glaub's, to be specific. Until this year, it was called the Lakland Bob Glaub. It's supposed to feel like a well played P, but with modern day advances(graphite truss rod, string through body, etc.). Originally, they were loaded with Lindy Fralin pickups, but in '07, Lakland started making their own pickups(which I haven't had the pleasure of trying yet).

Go check out your buddies bass. You will notice right away how wonderful the neck is. The best i've ever played.

I didn't like the bridge at first either, but now, it's part of what makes a Lakland a Lakland, to me.

I never understood the 'boutique' Fender J and P bass concept either.... until I played my first Sadowsky. Incredible basses as well. The heart and soul that they pour into these basses are incredible, and they stand behind every instrument they make. If you have a problem, they will make it right. Not only are you getting an incredible instrument, but top-notch customer service, which is a lost art these days. To me, that makes these basses priceless. They will truly last a lifetime.

Just be careful, because once you get your first "high end" bass, you'll start saving up for your second while envisioning what your third one will be.:D

A: A Lakland is a bass made in my hometown (Lakeland, FL), except that the maker accidentally left off the "e"?

(So maybe this is why I've become a Lakland convert?)

Tampa, you seriously need to read up on your Lakland history;):p:D

The Lakland name actually comes from founders Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland.... a combination of their last names. Oh, and they are made in Chicago:bassist:

I'm sure glad most of you were otherwise occupied or something when I posted my dumb question in Hardware last night.
If the search is that easy, then post a link to a thread that answers the question. You might even include the search terms you used.
No ugliness needed. Question is answered and the point gets across.
