What is missing from chorus pedals?

I've gone through a few choruses over the years, and I'm really happy with the features on the Polytope that have already been mentioned (cut off, clean and effect volume, voices, no modulation setting).

The only thing I really wish it had was an expression input to control speed. I *love* that sound, based on having an old Hammond Organ in the past. I also had a Morley pedal a long time ago that could do that...sounds really cool on bass. In the meantime, I'm using that functionality on my Pigtronix EP-2 envelope phaser....but of course, phaser isn't the same as chorus.

I don't know what pedals everyone else uses, but I use an EHX small clone chorus on my bass and experience virtually no low-end loss on either of my basses so I personally wouldn't NEED an EQ but it could be useful. however sometimes, in situations like with the Small Clone, I think less is more... the reason I love it so much is that it only has one switch and one knob, you can either have lighter depth or full depth and set the rate to whatever. that, to me (the simplicity, I mean) is what makes me love the Small Clone over other chorus pedals I have used

^ well on top of the tone it puts out... especially on the deep depth setting, i barely use the lighter one unless im playing 80's guitar like Rush or something but with the deep depth its so watery and it's just ILL

I think more modulation pedals should have envelope controlled speed. I really fell in love with that feature on one of the tremolo settings of the Line 6 M5. It really makes the effect much more organic and expressively connected. Not just some arbitrary effect but part of the playing. Of course I didn't mess with that feature on a chorus but I'm not so crazy about chorus on its own on bass :-/

I want a chorus that doesn't sound like the 80's.

You are such a liar. Embrace your 80's love, it will only make you stronger.

I've never been happy with any chorus I had until I bought an Analog Man Bi Chorus. VERY happy now. Coolest feature is that you can switch between two settings - I have mine set up with one slow, one fast - a bit like a Leslie. Goes GREAT with my POG2 to get the whole organ sound.
