What is "party band?"

That’s the way we did it in the 70’s.
Hotel lounges hired bands for 4 or 5 consecutive nights.
We called it work. It was a great part time job, though some drummers with girlfriends convinced them that it was their job. :-)

Played a gig last night at Tera Femara in Stuart FL with Ashleigh. You need a strong front person and the right sets. Her boyfriend Connor plays lead and we had a solid sub drummer. The audience loved us and danced up a storm. We played the gamut of Sugar Ray, Sublime,The Cardigans, Daft Punk-Up all night , Pink Floyd-Another Brick in the Wall and even played Shakedown Street by the Dead. So a party band in my estimate needs a great front person and a solid band with the song choices that gets the audience up on their feet.

Yup, I toured the hotel lounges interstate east of the Mississippi in the 70's. played 5-6 nights a week and sometimes special occasions. Regular work, drew a salary. Sang and played my ass off in a top 40 trio out of NYC. Social benefits. Yes those were the days.

These days we see plenty seniors, walkers, wheel chairs, heavily stented though appreciative audience. Im still happy for what I am able to perform.

Having a frontman that is not afraid to be cheesy helps a "party" band. Back when I was in a country band we would add a square dance caller for corporate gigs. Same with successful wedding bands, having somebody gregarious as a front person is almost a must. Leave art at home!:)

Huh... And to think all this time I thought a party band was a group of career drunks who were funny as hell and could play with top musicianship while totally inebriated (or stoned).
