What is the absolute bare minimum you can get by with ?

Ok I was curious as to what would make the cut for some . Everyone here has different preferences and nobody mentioned fender or another brand at all. Had nothing to do with it.

That’s a tough one. Would come down to the Sadowsky and the Geddy. Might be a coin flip.
Probably the Sadowsky, but man I’d have a hard time letting that Geddy go.
Funny, the Sadowsky is the one I pull off the wall the least, but at the end of the day, it’s the one I know will always sound right.

Well, if the thread isn't primarily about the P-type being essential, and whether or not the J-type can substitute for one, then I'll be wrong. Sorry I spoke too soon.
Honestly if the house was burning down and I could only grab 1 instrument, I'd probably take my SX. There is just something special about it. It was a good day at the SX factory, I guess.
I'd be sad to watch my Pedulla and my Fender Custom Shop go up in smoke, though.

My teal-finished Lull M5V is the only bass I’ll simply never let go or do without.

My most useful bass is my SB5000 since it is good for lessons and playing at church. My Geddy is my most valuable. If price were no object, the Carvin and my Yamaha fretless would be my most essential, but that Geddy will only go up in value.

The only thing stopping me from selling the others is some weird sentimentality, and a feeling that I'll regret it since one is discontinued, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other one get's discontinued in the near future.
I love that bass. You did a good job making it.
Same here. But I'd probably take a few third degree burns to get my thunderbird out too...
Last to go would be my custom Sadowsky PJ. If that hard-up, I'd sell it and make due with a budget PJ from Fender, Ibanez or Yamaha.
