At least a decade ago, I tested several 9V batteries by measuring their voltage as they discharged through a resistor that simulated roughly the current drawn by a preamp that shall not be named. I included some name brands and the Walgreen's store brand. There was no clear winner. I stuck with Walgreen's.
Recently, I got a couple of 9V rechargeable lithium polymer batteries from AliExpress. My intention was to use one of them and take the other apart. Since those batteries use a built-in switching voltage converter to produce 9V, I'd like to see how they affect the audio signal. I'll post results when I have them.
