What is the inherent problem with a 4x10?

Hey man, there ain't nothin' wrong with milkcrates or folding chairs as long as you drape a black bedsheet over them. You ever see what the tables actually look like underneath the fancy silk tableclothes you see at banquets?:D

yes i have. they look like the tables wrestlers get thrown through. but you're also talking about thousands of dollars worth of tables vs $30-40 for an amp stand. besides, everyone knows you're covering milk crates with black cloth. it's cheesy and unacceptable. so are chairs. you wanna get the big money? act like you deserve it. no milk crates!

I used to hire two pretty girls to hold my amp during the gig. My work REALLY kicked up due to that, but I ended up losing too much money.

I would agree with BillF and others that now, when 12" neo drivers are getting SO good, that there are 212's that will pretty much match both the sheer output and also the tight punch of a 410 cab, and (assuming the 212 is in vertical orienation with a nice horn/tweeter crossed over relatively low) having the added advantage of a bit more even spread of the upper mids.

For the first time ever, I've played a couple of 212's that are giving my 410's a run for their money... probably 80%+ of volume and punch... maybe more. Also, there are lightweight 112's out there that will give any 210 a run for its money.

I can see myself finally moving away from 410's with this new batch of 'super 12s' and 'super 212's' that is hitting the market.

Actually, the Basic Black is all of 50lbs. A super practical amp for clubs, parties, receptions which is 95% of my work. In my experience, backline has been provided on larger stages (i.e. festival gigs). Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes not. That's why I carry my own direct box to those kinds of gigs. That way, I have some control over my tone. With all that said, I do want to check out the new, lightweight bass amps/cabs and hear what all the fuss is about. :)

You're kidding? I use a milk crate, I love it. Shenendoah's Pride. It's worked for 20 years. Sue me. :spit: :D

LOL I hardly think I have death to fear for this "offense". And I donned my flame-retardant suit before posting, so I think I'll survive.

If I was playing on TV I wouldn't use one, and I'd put on make-up too, but on other stages? No one even notices. Certainly not more than what you *actually play* on the bass or as a band.

Well guys!! Thanks to all of you. I have been enlightened. The more I get into this bass thing the more I enjoy yacking with all you bass players. Thanks for all the feedback regarding the 4x10 supposed inherent flaws. I have learned quite a bit. I have met some great people. I have been given some great idea's. Cheers to all of you. SERIOUS RESPECT!!
