What is the manliest bass amplifier?

Hell I don't know, but those Marshall full stacks bassists used in the late 60's and early 70's (J. Bruce, N. Redding, J. Entwistle, R. Glover, A. Fraser........) were the manliest in my book. I like the sound of those things, but many people dislike it..... well, what the hell

Back in the 70's I was in a power trio w/ lead singer. The guitarist had 2 Hiwatt 50's through 4x12's a Fender Twin, and an Ampeg (V4 IIRC). I had a couple of SVT's but it wasn't close to loud enough so I was looking. Well, I had a side business renting PA gear and had a bunch of EV loaded Theil cabs (some from ProCo Sound, some I made). A tech friend suggested that I use my practice amp (B45) as a preamp through some PA speakers. He modified my B45 to have a balanced preamp output. So, one day while setting up part of my PA for another show, I tried the B45 with a couple of 2x15 and 1x18 cabs and a EV HF90 (IIRC) horn (the white ones) - sounded killer. So my rig ended up being 3 2x15, 3 1x18, and 3 HF90 horns (verticle in a spread) powered by DC300 and DC150 crown amps with a 3 way crossover. Loudest bass rig I've ever played. Now I just have 2 SM900's with 2 4x10 and 2 2x10 cabs - pretty flexible.
Clearly the movie clip is the product of editing multiple takes. Had he really turned everything up in that order, and then plugged the cable into the amp, the speaker would have blown out when he plugged the other end of the cable into the guitar jack.
Just sayin'.

I thought, being talkbass, that the manliest rig here would be the lightest weight 1x8" combo that had the most storage for moisturizer and an iPod docking station

Man, for some reason, I'm thinkin' Lemmy's signature Marshall stack. That thing is a man's, man's amp, for sure. Besides, you'd almost have to be not human to play in front of that thing, with it cranked, all while being tweaked outta your mind. And, what's amazing is, he's done it for decades!!

Not usually a Fender fan for bass, but that is smokin'! I wouldn't pay it but someone probably will eventually.

I had a PS300 for a while and honestly, it was manlier than the PS400 only because it would put out 300 clean watts into a single load whereas the PS400 had multiple separate transformer taps to divide the 400's power output. With one cab I think you'd only get 133 watts or so.... Not really manly IMO.
