What is the 'old' TalkBass?

I came to Talkbass from a now defunct site called " The Dudepit ".
That site was the Dodge city/ Deadwood of bass sites.
Lots of swearing, lots of ridicule, etc.
This is better.

-High end and modern/exotic/cutting edge basses with active EQ, dual coil pickups, fancy woods, single-cut options.
-new pickup manufacturers (Nordstrand were the New Kids, Aguilar didn't make pickups, who ever heard of Delano, etc.)
-exciting, cutting edge amps from Epifani, Genz Benz, Euphonic Audio, TC Electronic, Acoustic Image, Markbass, DNA, Phil Jones, Ashdown, Aguilar, EBS, Glockenklang, and others I'm sure I've forgotten. Darkglass made pedals. Jim Bergantino made cabs. Mesa Boogie made guitar amps (mostly).
-New, innovative brands were launching. Darkglass was in it's infancy. TC Electronic transitioned from primarily rack effects and studio products to their very innovative line of bass amps and user programmable pedals. Source Audio was just getting off the ground.
-Pros were accessible.
-Gigs and gigging bass players talking about gigs, posting pictures of gigs, etc.
-openness to new things
-clubs and club numbers

Ah yes, the good old “+1” days before the “like” button was installed which was slightly controversial because some members felt it was TB becoming more like FB, been here since ‘06 and for me it’s a little more vanilla, all of the nails that stuck up, people who had strong opinions on various subjects, were hammered down by the mods and eventually left along with their knowledge and experience and now we have endless threads asking the same questions over and over, maybe I just have thicker skin than what is common nowadays but I was never bothered by what Ken Smith,Jeff Berlin, Bovine Host, etc. said to me or anyone else,I joined to get information and experience from others and maybe even some laughs.

We had to learn bass lines the old fashioned way, with our ears.
So there was help available for that on old TalkBass.

And we had to ride our dinosaurs to school 10 miles in the snow too.

I'll guess that it's the PC culture. Mods applying rules to some and not others, money seems to be a driver in some of it. Did I mention PC? All guesses on my part. No idea really.

I’m a noob and an old white guy, which I’m assuming TB demographic skews heavily, and unlike many many places in the great WWW, I appreciate TB in ways that no other BBS, social platform etc can fill.

this noob feels like he belongs and can be himself without trolls or bat crap crazy. I’m not sure how civil the old TB was, but I appreciate the hard work by the mods and the culture of our community.
