What is the 'old' TalkBass?

Sure. Now if only that rule is applied consistently across the board. Since then there have been dozens of examples of folks saying much worse than I did.

on every board i've taken part in or been a mod at, mods are usually unpaid volunteers, and there just aren't enough of them to read every post in every thread. mods rely on members reporting stuff, and some things get reported and other things don't. so it's not necessarily a question of applying the rules consistently - it's a question of what issues the mods either are made aware of or stumble across themselves. and with hundreds or thousands of posts per day and a handful of unpaid moderators, it would be impossible for them to know about every time a rule is broken without lots of help.

it's a lot of work, mostly thankless, and often with people mad at you for stuff like this. it's why i'm no longer a moderator on any forum.

There are only 3 forums that I frequent (TB and a couple of car/Jeep ones). FB became all the rage for a while, which is why I think many forums fell by the wayside, but I've never been a fan of the way that FB collects massive amounts of data on users and non-users alike. I have a FB account, but mainly for Marketplace, since CL is all but dead anymore (though there is Reverb and GC).

TB is definately one of the more civil forums I've been a member of, and I've belonged to MANY forums over the years. Too many trolls and trouble makers on FB and a lot of other forums, but TB is one of the few that a medicore bass player like myself can ask a 'dumb' question and not get harrassed. We all gotta learn, right? And at 63yo, I have no illusions of becoming anything much more than medicore, but that's ok. I learn quite a bit just reading through threads here.

I'm having fun, learning a lot (both here and by all the practicing I do), enjoying playing in a 'band' with my other family members, and if luck has it, maybe at some point I can find a bunch of individuals like myself that I can jam together with. I'm sure the 'dumb' questions will continue from me, but thanks to all that have helped out on the way and not resorted to belittiling behavior.

couldn’t have said it better, only I’m 51, but otherwise same deal here

I see they did away with the yearly gold membership and made it a monthly subscription like streaming services.

This I had not noticed, and if it's true I'm agin it. It cannot possibly be as simple to keep track of as annual renewals, it becomes a monthly nuisance for members, and personally I am uneasy when it comes to allowing automatic withdrawals from my bank account or automatic charges to my credit card. *I* and I alone want to be in control of those things.

I used to enjoy Bill Fitzmaurice when he posted on discussions on speaker cabs.

Like someone said previously, most of my gear I’m happy with now. I enjoy posts where people link to music / bassists I haven’t found yet, or like the above video where I knew Carol King but somehow not Charles Larkey.

Learning all the time. Wish I had found TB sooner, it would have helped me in the early 2000’s.
