What is this bass guitar accessory?

That accessory is called a "human". They are used to make sounds with the bass guitar. Without a "human", the bass guitar cannot make a sound. Depending on the quality of this accessory, the bass guitar may sound better without one.
A bass guitar can make sounds without a human. When it falls over, it makes lots of sounds. No human involved. The human may make sounds subsequent to the sounds the bass guitar makes due to falling over. There is some pre-Platonic logic potential here.

One time many years ago after a night of partying and jamming, I accidentally left my guitar plugged in and my amp on. I woke up in the middle of the night to my guitar doing a Jimi Hendrix impression. It was playing itself.

... but if there is no human around when it falls, does it really make a sound?
