What is this glue and how do I remove it?

Long story, short: I have an old SWR Goliath II that I'm re-hab'ing. I've pulled all the rat fur off. Now, I want to make sure I use the right stuff to remove this left-over glue. I've already tried hitting it with sand paper (60-grit), but it's not coming up.

Side note- that's no moon!

My order of preference:
  1. Belt sander but be very careful.
  2. Random orbital sander.
  3. Acetone, horrid stuff.
  4. The right amount of heat will release any adhesive and allow it to be scraped. You don’t want to delaminate the plywood. An old technique is to use a cloths iron over a damp cotton cloth.
Be care not to change the roundover of the edges. Otherwise, the hardware will not fit properly.
