Started out in 81 with a 73 Jazz,which I still own and will never sell. Years later around 2001,I joined a progressive rock band ,and I expanded the collection to 5,and 6 string basses,and fretless. During my heavy bar band days,from 2005 to 2014,it was Music Man basses pretty exclusively. A few year back, a tribute band I joined required a P bass. I've been hooked ever since. So basically I started out on Fenders,and 35 plus years later,I've gone full circle.

1967 - Teisco Delray from department store (sold at yard sale)
1969 - EB0 (early '60s) traded on
1970 - '68 Telecaster traded on (I still have pickup/bridge covers and case)
1974 - '62 Jazz (used case from Telecaster bass)
1976 - Ampeg AEB-1 traded for a Schecter parts telecaster in '82
1992 - '92 Precision deluxe
2014 - Squire Bass VI
2015 - 2015 Am Std Precision

First serious bass was Aria 1540/Greco/Kasuga, one of those Japanese J copies. Wood was great. but, electronics were terrible. That thing is responsible that I never become professional musician. I hated it so badly, until 1979

Ric 4001. I had so much expectations. But, it was impossible to get used. Sold everything in 1981 and did not touch bass until 2001.
I would not do it then, either. But, my wife said: It's time to get on your first love and got me Yamaha BB200 on ebay for (I think $100) as a birthday present.
From then, it took off..

1) first was an Ibanez RD-707 from my dad for my 16th bday
2) fell into a '89 L-2000
3) picked up an Applause short scale fretless acoustic to take to college
4) traded the acoustic in towards a guitar
Started playing guitar more and didn't play bass much from the late 90s until about '04; had the Ibanez and G&L squirreled away at this time
5) got a G&L Tribute SB-2
6) got a Fender MIM Jazz that I proceeded to turn into a parts bass with new neck, new tuners, new pickups and electronics, new pickguard, refin
7) bought an SX fretless P, eventually modded with new pickups, and a new fretted SX neck
8) added a G&L Tribute L-2500
9) added a G&L L-1500
10) traded the L-1500 for a first-generation G&L SB-2
11) sold the SX and Tribute SB-2 to help fund a guitar
12) sold the first-gen SB-2
13) picked up a G&L LB-100
14) sold the Tribute L-2500
15) bought a Fender MIM Deluxe Active Jazz V
16) traded the modified Jazz and a guitar for a Fender Sting signature Precision
17) traded a guitar (in 11) for a Fender Highway 1 Jazz
18) Bought an Ibanez GSR6EX
19) sold the Highway 1 Jazz
20) bought a second G&L L-2000
21) sold the MIM Deluxe Active Jazz V

So, for anyone counting, I currently have two L-2000s, an LB-100, the Sting sig, the Trib M-2500, the Affinity J and a few guitars. Oh, and a mandolin.

I think that covers it, but I'm probably missing something. I've had a similar journey with guitars that I won't delve into. I've enjoyed them all (except the Applause; that thing was truly horrible), but if I could have one back, it would be the Tribute SB-2. That one was just special.

Squier Affinity P-bass pack sold and got a Squier CV 60's Jazz. 9 Years later I sold that and got Fender Aerodyne. Then a Mustang PJ, then a CIJ Mustang, then a Standard P. I got a SBMM SUB Ray4 (Refinished red walnut color to the natural in the pic) and a MIK Squier in there too but I never really played them.

After I got my Aerodyne, my GAS kicked in hard and I got my 6 basses all within that year. I also picked up a couple amps and other stuff like pickguards and pickups and whatnot as well within that year. I pretty much got a new job, met some other musicians, started a jam band and got serious about playing again.

1976 Used off brand eb-0 - destroyed modding it.
1977 Used Fender Telecaster bass - hated that thing - loved the look but it was a pig. Sold and bought:
Dan Armstrong Plexiglass. Roadie knocked it over and broke the head stock, while it was being repaired I played a borrowed Rick - was a 4001 I believe.
Traded the Dan Armstong for a new Fender P bass.
Traded the P for a new Musicman Stingray (still have it)
Added another Stingray (used) - traded it for a Washburn SB40. I wanted the explorer shape but hated the V-neck.
Used the Washburn and MM for most of the 80s.
1983 Dean ML type bass. Don't remember the model - liked it but it was too awkward. Sold it.
1989 Aria Pro ii (still have it)
Child born. No purchases or trades.
Since about 2010 I've bought and sold a couple Squiers and Yamahas but added and have:

1983: Started playing bass, and got a new Peavey T-40.
1986: T-40 stolen, but no band so I didn't replace it.
1988: Joined band, bought used Peavey Patriot, which I played semi-regularly until giving up playing in 1993.
2002: Started playing again, bought Ibanez SRX 500.
2003: Realized Ibanez didn't cut it, so bought DiPinto Belvedere, and soon thereafter Am. Series Fender Jazz.
2004: Added 1994 Fender MIJ Foto-Flame Precision and 1999 Am. Deluxe Precision. Sold Ibanez and Peavey.
2004: A few months later, bought new Am. Series Fender P. Sold Foto-Flame and Am. Deluxe P.
2006: G&L USA L-1500; built project fretless P, mostly from MIM and MIA Fender parts. (SX fretless P was bought and sold around this time.)
2007: G&L USA SB-2.
2008: MIA Fender Jazz V. Sold DiPinto, Fender P, and G&L L-1500 -- all displaced by the monstrous SB-2.
2010: G&L USA JB. Started parting out the project fretless P. (Sold neck and hardware quickly, and sold body this year.)
2011: Used 2010 MIM Fender J.
2014: G&L USA M-2500; sold Jazz V and MIM J.

So, the current lineup is G&L M-2500, SB-2 and JB, and MIA Fender Jazz. Current GAS is for G&L L-2500 and a lightweight P-bass with a J neck and maple board.

I think that's it. I still have the Japanese '62 PJ and the Starcaster. Sold everything else along the way. I think my average duration of ownership is about 18-24 months. That said, I've had that PJ for quite a few years now - maybe it's a keeper! The Japanese Squier P I still technically own, but my brother has had it for a few years now.

That Squier VM Jazz is still floating around Afghanistan apparently. bought it from MF and had it shipped overseas. I sold it to someone when I redeployed in fall 2011.

My first bass was a homemade job bought from a friend in 1985. It was black and yellow with a teardrop body. I can't remember any other details. Got trashed.

For my first band, I bought a Marlin Slammer from my mum's catalogue in 1987. It was awful and put me off P basses for years. Sold.

My first proper bass. Washburn Force 40EQ, bought in 1989 and still with me.

After a twelve year break, I got the bug again and picked up two new basses in 2006. The Crafter acoustic, still my go to "working stuff out" bass and the Peavey Millenium 5, which fell into disuse and is now owned and played in his own band by my son.

Another 5 year break and in 2016, I started going down to my local open mic night with the acoustic. Bug caught again and my first proper case of GAS. A P Bass with double humbuckers? Count me in. I tried one out and it was a universe different from that old Marlin, so the Blacktop was mine - and still is.

The open mic nights led to a new band and two new basses last year. I wanted a Jazz and the Classic '70s suited me - but then Fender went and released the Redline Noir P, which was just too beautiful to let past. These two are my main gigging pair now.

And finally, last month, my first foray into fretless with the Ibanez SR700-BBF, which I'm getting along with very nicely.

Home made ultra short scale SG bass copy. Made in woodwork class at school.
Hofner Senator semi acoustic short scale with flats. Couldn't sell it fast enough.
Japanese P bass copy, much modified. I snapped the truss rod on it!
62 P, Played it from about 1969 until 2005.
