I am beginning to think that all bets are off when it comes to tube heads. With SS amps/heads, I can tell how many amp/cab combinations are going to sound even before I hook them up. But with tube amps, I find that I'm always a little surprised by just what gear works (or doesn't work) well with various tube amps. I would not be afraid to try this setup, though. My VL-110's seem to take my Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 (150w per side) pretty well.

My favorite cab for upright is the EA Wizzy. To me it sounds very precise, but still sounds very warm and full at the same time. Hard to explain without hearing it for yourself.
Admittedly, I haven't actually tried a bevy of other cabinets like some of the folks who've already posted here. But since the Wizzy sounds so good with slab too, I'm very happy with it.
