What is your favorite lightweight rig?

Most of my gigs are in pretty compact places--restaurants, private parties, etc., so I don't need a whole lot of power. I'm really pleased with my Promethean P-3110 (300w through a 10" speaker and on/off tweeter) combo, which weighs about 23 lbs. and serves me well for practice and many small gigs. I've never yet had to set Gain and Master any higher than half way up. For larger rooms I add an Eden 10" extension cab, which weighs about the same, adds volume, and nicely fills out the bottom end.

Magellan 800 and one or two of the fabulous BA12-3 cabs.

Up until recently I my lightweight rig was a Fender 210 combo amp which has been a good amp. I just got and started using a Tech 21 VT500 with the matching 112. It is amazing with just killer tone. I have tried it with my Hartke 410XL, and a combo of the 112 with a 15, either way it pretty much rules. I intend to purchase another 112 at some point but right now it works great with what I have.

With all these small heads coming out what is your go to small amp head and small cab (2x10, 2x12, etc...)?

Maybe something you would have on stage with you at a church or something that you would be running in ears with but still have the presence of a stage amp?

TIA

I only use a Fender Rumble 200. Granted, it doesn't sound like Patton coming over the hill, but the tone is good, the volume is good, and it's quiet and small and light and cheap and sturdy and reliable.

Calling the equipment one plays one's bass through a rig does not justify the implied added expense.

This is my "biggest" setup. Sometimes I might attach a GK500MB to the extension cabinet and run the Alembic stereo, clean on one side, effects on the other.

For smaller gigs (most of what I do these days) I either take the combo or the extension cab + GK500MB. Cab + GK500MB is my smallest, lightest, setup, since the GK500MB slips into my gig bag.

G-K MB-500 head with first gen G-K Neo112 cab. Occasionally I'll use my Roland Cube Bass 100 instead, but only for really small or low volume gigs (e.g., musical theater). The G-K rig isn't that much bigger and heavier, so its superior power and tone are almost always worth it.

This one!

For pit work it's great. fDeck->LE TV->Quilter->MAS 26. I'll replace the fDeck with a EHX Big Muff if it's a BG gig.

Small stage/area it's vertical, more room it's horizontal. Max versatility with tube changes in the LE TV too.

Oh and props go out to Dan for getting me turned on to the Low End True Voice preamp too.

John

I went through 5 or 6 combinations in about a 3-year period, then finally settled on two Eden 210XST cabinets with either a Genz-Benz Shuttle 9 or a GK MB-Fusion on top. The cabinets are old-tech and not especially light but they sound great and are still among the most compact 210s I know about.

In the picture is the rig with the Shuttle and one of my Skjold basses. That bass sounds kind of like a cross between a Stingray and a Fodera, which is a great match for the rig.

My next move is a Greenboy Fearless 112. With that I think I can get to one car trip load in and one out, which is the goal. Not sure how I will deal with having it down by my feet though. As you can see, I stack my 210s vertically to get the sound up closer to my ears.

I have limited spousal approval for new gear since I gig a lot less these days, so I'll have to sock away gig money a while.
