What is your "gift" as a player.

People always compliment me for being a black bass player as if it were the most rock and roll thing they've ever seen.
Everything else comes super unatural so I'm happy to be one of the gifted ones

I'm not following. They're saying, "you're a good bass player, for a BLACK GUY?"

Or are they saying you're even better than most Black Guys, and assuming Black Guys are better bass players?

Or do they think it's harder to play a Black Bass, and they think most players prefer a Sunburst?

Because in the Seventies, (where I come from,) if a Black Guy was really good, especially at playing Funk, everybody would be all, "well yeah, of COURSE he's good; he's BLACK," the same way a lot of people are about Wide Receivers in Football.

I am going to come right out and say that I don't think race, ethnicity, gender or sexual preference make a damn bit of difference in bass playing, but natural talent, finger strength, and practice time definitely can.

Am I nuts?

OK, fair point, but am I nuts about THIS?

I'm actually a very average player, but I have perfect pitch and good dexterity in my right hand. It's like I have have stuff I want to do in my head ready to go, but my left hand doesn't want to do it.

Also, I'm a humble guy-but you asked!

i gotta say like this thread.

its like one of those special K adverts-focus on the positive.

its probably my foot long beard.

anywho i think its my bongo player interpretation. counter rhythms to the drums and locking up and drifiting away when needs.

or playing the same riff but with more notes and rests as mi riddem playa says

that and always having spare rizla's

always
