What kind of pick do you use?

I split about 50-50 between pick and fingerstyle. It just depends on what bass and style I'm playing at the moment. My pick of choice is a nice fat surfpick (you can google that). It costs a bit moe than your typical pick but he is sellng some "el cheapos" now that are pretty reasonable and IMO/IME these picks sound significantly better than anything else I have tried.

Pick for punky stuff, or speedy rock.

I use Clayton .94 big size...they never seem to wear out...only wear in. But I do have 12 of them in my gig bag which are randomly selected

I started out with a pick, but once I started playing with my fingers, I enjoyed it so much. I just don't enjoy playing with a pick, so I've never gone back.

when i started playing i would use a pick because that's what all my heros did. then my mom started dating a guy who played bass and showed me how i could get pretty close to that sound with my fingers and have more flexability. now the only time i use a pick is if it's been a while and i do a whole lot of playing and get blisters. even then, i usually play through it. and it's now second nature to use my ring finger along with my pointer and middle. i've tried to incorperate my pinky but it just feels too unnatural.

I rarely play with a pick, but when I do, I use the blue dunlops, for both bass and guitar. I don't remember their thickness, but they feek very nice.

Heavies or extra heavies. Dunlops are my favorites. I'm not sure of the exact names or materials. Some are clear and simply say "Jim Dunlop", some have turtles, some have rhinos and some have gators.

When playing with a pick I use a Gibson heavy almond shaped pick, other times I just use my fingers

When I use a pick, it's always a Dunlop GatorGrip 1.14 (blue).

Here's a breakdown of approximately how much I use each technique:
Pick 33%
3-finger pluck 33%
classical-guitar-style thumb + 4 fingers 33%
Tapping 2%
Slapping 3%
Harmonics (tapped and/or pinch) 5%

I'm about 75% pick player. I use 2 main picks. If I want a lighter attack I use Dunlop Gator Grip .58mm, for a heavier attack I use Dunlop Tortex .73mm. I've tried thicker picks, but it feels like I'm gonna break a string. One benefit of playing with one for me is playing 16th notes. I've just never been able to play constant 16ths for very long with my fingers. Plus I work in a butter factory so my hands are always either: frozen, wet or greasy so it's hard to get callouses on my finger tips.

I wish I could play with a pick as fluidly & competently as I do with my thumb and three fingers, but after trying various picks of diffrent materials/density I pretty much gave up.

I just EQ lots more treble & pick with my fingernails.(works fine)

I use Snarling Dog Brain Picks, red .73mm. The have a section that's like sandpaper. I always used to drop or accidentally fling picks if my fingers got sweaty in the least; I've never dropped a Brain Pick while playing. I play hardcore punk and some faster metal, and while I've never broken a Brain Pick, they do disintegrate after a few months of practice. Plus, they have a pretty cool name. Wish they'd endorse me...

I don't know why, but there's something cool about that. Maybe it's the thought of bacon-wrapped butter, fried in buter.

I've tried various picks over the years even though I'm not much of a pick player. Tortex, Gator Grip, Ultex, Star Picks, even V-Picks. I like the larger triangle shapes. That way if one edge wears out I can just spin it around.

I use CLAYTON 1.00 Acetal....very low click unless you want it then you can make them jump.

I alternate between the style of song I'm going to play. Some songs I have to finger, and some songs I have to pick.

When I do, I use a 3mm Big Stubby

Fender medium gauge. Regular size, regular shape. Usually celluloids or California Clear.

I'm really bad about losing picks, so I always have a lot on hand.
