What kind of pick do you use?

I'm trying to work on different styles of bass playing, and I don't know how important what pick is used.

D'Andrea Formula Delrex .73 mm. They're stiffer than nylon, so the play more like a heavier pick. Plus, they're big yellow triangles, which is cool.

I use my fingers too, started that way, learned pick later when I was having tendonitis and carpel tunnel problems. I felt like picks were a bit easier on my hands.

Definitely easier to play fast on single or adjacent strings, harder to play on songs with a lot of string skipping.

The tone is good for modern styles of rock, probably not so much for more mellow or traditional styles.

I use Fender heavys.......I don't always use a pick thru our set of songs but on some I do.....I've always been a finger kinda player. but the pick does serve the purpose in certain songs....... good post!

I mostly use fingers now, but when I was your age I lost a custom pick and I really messed with my head. I then decided to only use Fender Heavy Picks becuase I can walk into any guitar store and buy them.

If I am picking, I use the thinnest pick I can find, preferably 0.50mm.

I know it sounds crazy, but if you have the extra $5 go buy a pack and try them.

I primarily use my fingers, but when the song calls for the pick sound I use Tortex .73mm for a bit more bite and 1.0mm for a bit smoother sound. Yes, it makes a difference.

I'm finger-style almost all of the time. Occasionally I'll use a pick just so it doesn't feel to foreign if I have to use one. Or sometimes if I'm just experimenting with different sounds for a song.

I always keep one in my gear bag in case I hurt my fingers in a car door or something. When I do use one, it's always those huge triangular Fender heavy picks.

Mostly fingerstyle as well, but when I use a pick I prefer green Tortex, .80mm I believe.

I mainly use my fingers, but some of my bands' songs require (or sound better) with a pick. I love Fender mediums, but beware of their fragility. Dunlop makes Tortex picks of all calibers. I recently started buying the yellow ones.

Either dunlop tortex 2.0 mm or dunlop big stubby 3.0 mm.

I like a lotta pick whenever I use one.

Ric's like picks so I use one 99% of the time.I'm not fussy so I use almost anything I've got laying around. I lean towards some kind of Nylon though.

Normally I play with fingers, but I always have a metal pick hanging at the end of my strap. It's very handy that way, and the sound is waaay better than the normal picks. I find it great for overdriven parts, plus it adds harmonics too.

lol-that's a pretty thick pick!

I use Dunlop 2mm Big Stubby's. I like the sharper attack of a pick, it's easier for me to use (trying to practice finger technique), and I like the "rounder" edge, probably for no particular reason.

The Big Stubby just feels right in my hand.

I play mostly finger style, but I have been known to swing both ways. When I use a pick, it's plastic with an "M" on it.

I occasionally use a pick, if I'm doing something a bit on the punky side.

It's pretty large and stiff, probably about 0.7mm thick. I think it's green. It's stuck between pickup and body when not in use.
