What kind of strings do you use?

I use roundwounds, preferably Stainless Steel.

At the moment I'm getting a lot of good results with Fodera Diamond SS roundwounds, they are responsive and feel great to play and have a really amazing tone!

For my headless bass I use Status Double ball end strings.

I've played just about every brand and gauge of roundwounds for the last 15 years,and just recently slapped on a set of Rotosound flatwound Steve Harris strings and other than the gauge being a little big for my taste(110 E string) ,I think I'm going to stick with the flats.They give that fat mellow sound I've been looking for

Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky on my Aria Pro II SB-900.
Warwick Black Label ML - 5 string on my Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman.

Although I quite fancy trying out some Nickel strings on the Warwick.

Sadowsky stainless steels do the job for me....Transformed my SR5's B string into a massive monster. Wanted the ray to sound like a J bass, too.

I love my SIT Power Wounds. They're cheap, sound great and last a long time. Elixir's are awesome but man, the cost of putting them on my six strings gets way out of hand.

I just put on a set of DR Low Riders (SS) 45-100. I like them just fine, but I think my bass sounds fatter with nickel roundwounds. I like GHS Boomers a lot, but for the $ they die too soon.

Elites and D'Addarios, stainless steel, 35-95.

Legacy Nickel for my T-bass, 40-100.

I have bought 4 sets of bass strings for $21 (included shipping). This is some kinda joke right? The strings must be total crap? How? Well, I purchased these on Ebay almost 10 months ago. I changed 2 sets already but IMHO, this was the best deal ever. Right now on set 3 and have set 4 as a back up. I have not been able to find this deal anywhere again. The brand is Alice Strings, light gauge. A lot of people like that dead sound, these string sound better new. I find them sounding flat over time. Anyone else seen this kinda deal? I currently have them on my 4-string Squire Jazz Bass. I bought them as a kind of a, 4 sets, why not? kinda thing. I have played on a few different brands and found Ernie Ball Super Slinky to be my pick, but these Alice strings definantly give them a run for the money.

DR Black Beauties. Admittedly I got them cos I thought they'd look cool on my bass, which is all black - and they do, but they also sound and feel fantastic and they've become my favorite string. Used to use D'Addario XL nickels before the DRs.

I LOOVE Rotosound Nickel (NOT THE STAINLESS ONES) RS66-Ns....for My Ric and personally modified Maxican J, absolutely unbeatable. FOr My PErsonalized Yamaha RBX375, Chromes, oiled down with a wee bit of Olive O il.

I have a new set of Chromes lying around...which bass should I put them on? I tried the E string on the Jazz but I have an audition tomorrow and (until I break them in, I hope), the Chromes sound like all harmonics and no thump.

...D'Addarion ProSteels-they're simply HUGE (sounding) on my Jazz 24. These seem to really shine on basses that have good mid tone. They have more tension than DR's or La Bella, but that's nothing an action ajdustment can't fix. The great thing about a bit more tension, is that the E doesn't have that open string "backbuzz" when you aggressively let it ring. They need a bit of stretching, and once you've got you're action right where you want it, they just roar. I've managed to get some really nice and clear harmonics, as well as a great burpy Jaco sound. I practice my speed and stamina daily, by playing Iron's Maiden's "Number of the Beast" album from start to finish, and these ProSteels command some serious authority. I'm just hoping they'll last for a while-a month would be nice. They're only about $20, so once a month would be doable.
