What mutli-effect?

My band is moving into some new territory (for me anyway) and I'm wanting to get some more keyboard type and subsonic sounds from my bass. I have some stomp boxes hanging around but I never use them because pedal dancing drives me nutz. I don't have the right ones to get the sounds I want now anyway. If I could get a cool effect unit that would mount in the rack along with my head and maybe have a floor pedal to call up programmed sounds I think I would actually use it. Or if that's crazy expensive I might go with a floor unit like the Boss ME-20B or similar.

The problem is I don't know what all is out there, what's junk, what's easy to program etc. I have some Boss pedals and I've always thought they sounded good so if all else is equal I would lean toward a boss or Roland unit.

Thinking about $250-$300 range, maybe a little higher if the perfect one is a bit above that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The Line 6 M series is quite good and they all work similarly to regular stomp boxes. I have the M5. It does one effect at a time. It has a great octaver and some pretty cool synth sounds. I'm currently partial to the "bass octave" (down) and the "octave fuzz" (up) but I like a couple of the synth settings as well. If you want to program patches with combinations of effects then a more traditional multi effect might be up your alley. I thought the Zoom B2 was pretty decent, and quite affordable. Try a search for Multi-effects.

I thought I tried searching but not knowing too much about what I was looking for makes that difficult. Continued searches have brought up some interesting stuff. So far the M9 is looking pretty promising and with home practice, band practice and gigs to consider it may be easier to use the floor board instead of the rack mount. I guess if I'm going to have a pedal anyway it may as well be a complete unit.

yeah, i'd recommend the M9. not only is it one of the better multi's out there, until you get in the Axe Fx range, and i think those are around $2 g's, but it holds it's value pretty well.

M9's go used about $50/$100 cheaper than new, so if it makes you into a degenarate efx junkie you'll be able to flip it to fuel your newfound addiction!

hi guyz, im tryin to spice a bit my sound and tried a bass enhacer the other day was quite amazin though it was a small change it was quite enough, so i want to ask you because being a bass players it takes a while for us to go into pedals we are ussually the simple guyz you know, cable, bass and just show me where is the amp, so wanna hear suggestions on this 2 equipments and please if possible detail the reason and what you think this would give to the bassist sound, thanks the equipments are

i THINK you're asking "what do those two pieces of gear do". if so, they're preamps. like the eq/tonal section of a head. the Eden is to give you the Eden Sound into a flat eq'd amp or a power amp. the M-80 is MXR's take on a preamp, with a distortion channel.

both also function as a DI.

I kept searching and reading and reading and searching, and looking for used stuff available and ended up making a deal on a well used Boss GT-8B. From all the stuff I've read today it's probably going to take some getting used to but supposedly it has good sounding effects and is good for playing live in that it's quiet and you can call up presets quickly and easily. The guys using it seem satisfied for the most part and for $125 it should at least be a good starting point for finding out what I do and don't like in a multi-fx unit.

got it, thanks you, quick questions when it comes to the eden WTI and a zoom b 2 besides the possible quality when it comes to sound what other diferences would they have, cuz im thinkin about gettin both but may not need both

very different things. the Zoom is a multi-efx unit, a box with a bunch of emulations of different pedal types. the Eden is basically a very specialized type of EQ, designed to make you sound like you're playing through an Eden amp.

the Zoom WILL have some eq stuff, but it's going to sound different than the WTI. the Zoom will have distortions and filters and delays and choruses.... more weird and effects type tones instead of making your bass sound like a clean tone into an Eden.

That's interesting, because IIRC Boss never made a GT-8B. only the 6B and 10B - they skipped the 8 for some reason.

Oops, it's a 6B.

And I'll probably end up with an M13 eventually. Looks like a lot of M9 owners sell their to buy the M13. For now I think the old Boss unit will work out fine. Either way it seems like kind of a leap since I've never used any kind of effects on bass.

The GT-6B arrived today, yeah!!

Got to play with it for a while and tried all the patches that are programmed in from previous owners. I'm thinking I can use quite a few as they are, there's some cool stuff in there. I figured out how to navigate through the patches pretty quick, now I'm looking forward to printing the manual and learning how to dial in my own stuff. :hyper:
