What neck is this? Real, Re-issue, or Fake??

Yes, A, B, and C width Fender necks have always remained within +/- 1/16" tolerance of 1-1/2", 1-5/8" and 1-3/4" respectively, regardless of the year.

I haven't run into that much variation in nut widths I've measured (yes, I'm a nerd, for years I actually carried 2 inches of ruler in my wallet to measure them) and all have been the nominal widths for the time. The J's I've mesurred from the '60s through much of the '70s were all 1-7/16". Not saying there isn't that variation, just that I haven't seen it.

I don't doubt that. The Fender Jazz Bass neck I have happens to be about 1-31/64th wide at the nut.

The truss nut slots don't appear to be a simple cut, like an original. There's a sloped bottom to the slots visible inside.

I think the slots are just filled with some odd dried gunk. Looks kind of gross, TBH.

Not a 65 as noted by others -- should be a veneer not slab board. Also that board doesn't look like Brazilian rosewood.

AT BEST, this may be a Mexi Standard neck, doctored obviously. It may also be an offshore or other. It's certainly not original, nor is it remotely a '65. That stamp is hilarious. Hopefully you're not out much more than $100 or so.

Maybe reissue or some nameless neck with some fakes to make it look like '65 neck. Quite bad fake actually.
JB neck code should have 7 as first number not 5. 5 is factory code for P Bass. The font is wrong. There should be 5th hole on the neck heel. No slab fingerboard in 1965, but curved FB. The rosewood doesn't look like what 7ender used in the 60s. The dots should be pearloid (or something like)

That C is about something else totally separate. The C printed on the neck is (mis)describing the width of the nut. The C in the specs is describing the shape of the cross-section of the neck.

My point was that whoever added that stamp probably took that 'C' on the Fender data as being what should be included in the stamp rather than understanding what it actually means - Ooops!

Definitely not a true vintage Fender neck, but a really nice looking one nonetheless.

It appears the truss rod adjustment screw is different too…the screw tip grooves appear to be at a different angle.

Is it forgery if the original owner was just trying to dummy up something cool, but warned the buyer that it was a Mexican Jazz neck? It seems to me, they were just into the vintage look but were honest about it. Some people geek out over things like stamps and stuff.

Aquired this neck today, and cant find any info on it. Previous owner tinted the headstock with that Stewmack tinting. He thinks he sanded a Mexi serial number off the back of the headstock, but the date code is throwing me off. Please help. Also had Hipshot tuners installed, that were not original. Any info greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure it's a fake as Fender was employing veneer style rosewood fingerboards after sometime in 1962 and this one has a slab fingerboard.
