What neck is this? Real, Re-issue, or Fake??

Well we know it's not a 65, everyone agrees there, even the seller said it was a MIM. The bigger mystery to me that still hasn't been fully answered is if it is even a MIM? Did Fender make that many MIM necks with a heel "cross" style truss rod adjust? I thought most MIM necks were hex at the head stock. At least all the standards and player series basses were. If it is a MIM could it be anything but a Vintera 60s?

I think the slots are just filled with some odd dried gunk. Looks kind of gross, TBH.

I see what you mean. To me, it looks like it was made for Phillips head. The original is flathead. And sometimes not a perfect 90 degree cross.

I don't care if a used neck has a serial number, because I'm usually going to remove the logo anyway. But there is nothing I loathe (bass-wise) more than a fake Fender neck. This is the first time I've ever seen a fraudulent date stamp added, though.

I haven't run into that much variation in nut widths I've measured (yes, I'm a nerd, for years I actually carried 2 inches of ruler in my wallet to measure them) and all have been the nominal widths for the time. The J's I've mesurred from the '60s through much of the '70s were all 1-7/16". Not saying there isn't that variation, just that I haven't seen it.

I just went and measured my 66 Jazz Bass, yep, 1-7/16.

Yes they have for years: its called the 60's reissue Jazz Bass. It is MIM, and looks very much like a US 62RI, except it has three knob control plate and a poly finish.
So yes it had the vintage style details, but no strap button on the headstock.

And then they came out with the Road Worn 60's Jazz, and of course the Flea bass.
This neck can be any one of those.
