What rack effects have you paired w a SS head?

I have a GK 800rb I've used for years. Just got a "new" rack case for it and theres a single space leftover just begging to be filled.
I've always been a pedals guy, so really never tried much rack gear and was curious what everyones opinions on things I might try out that would go well with my particular head.
Specifically

Compressor / Limiter
Sonic Maximizer

= "effects" I haven't tried but am curious about now.
Any stand-outs?

:help:

FWIW, I don't NEED to fill the space. I like my tone just fine as is, but you know how it is. Always down to try stuff out and see what difference it makes.

Oh and I like my tuner on the floor so I can see it without turning around, so that's off the table. ;)

:eyebrow:

good work talkbass
zero help, as usual

:D

oh and while I'm riding the hate-train, let me just ask -
Am I the only person who thinks the emoticons here are pretty much the WORST of any forum ever?

:hiding:

sad thing is that'll probably get more of a response than my legitimate question

People don't visit the effects forum as much and not too many people use rack effects for that matter... give it time...

Anyways I had an ibanez ue400 that i ran with an swr 4004 and a gk400 for a while... I really couldn't say theres a difference with having them on the floor than on a rack. It sounded alright and I mostly used it for the compressor if I remember correctly.

Well I just remembered I also had a rack line6 bass pod pro I ran in front of a behringer 3000xt and matching 4 10. To be honest I used it sparingly and the effects weren't really good and needed major tweaking. I mostly used it as a tone shaper although the chorus and fuzzes got the most use (not because they were good but because the most usable and this was after all a multifx unit)

I use a rack sonic max, works well. in the past I've also used a rack compressor and a rack eq. As for the rest- I think rack multi-fx units are annoying. You have to scroll through lots of menus to set the effects, and even with a floor pedal they're still a pain. I'd stick with set-and-forget rack stuff and leave the effects to your pedals.

yeah. rack effects are kind of annoying.

:D <- possibly the worst

i doubt i'd use it live or whatever, but I'm curious about gear of all kinds. love bizarre sounds. super into synthesizers, etc.
digital rack effects are just sorta "the final frontier" that i barely have interest in tapping ... if you follow.

in response to garm - i actually had the UE405 :) I liked it a ton. Ended up trading it for a synth, but yeah. That's a good'n

 <- no wait, this one's the worst

i guess I just wanted to read what all people have paired with this amp and what they thought (I know there's lot's of RB users here, and the head comes in rack form, so... )

I have a dual channel (valve/SS) Peavey Preamp that lives in the FX loop of my Warwick Xtreme head. I blend it in about 50%. When I want pure fat clean tone I select the SS side of the Peavey, but in general I have the gain cranked on the valve side for a nice tubey grind. Not an effect as such, but...

Oh, and I like the smilies. :)
