Never own....again. Sorry for not clarifying further. Since the bass spent more time at RIC than it did in my possession....I forget I owned it sometimes.....

I was not responsible for the negativity in my postings. You can blame Rickenbacker's customer service and quality control for that.
Dude.. You alone are responsible for the negativity. There are plenty of ways to be critical without being negative.
If there was attention paid to detail when finishing these instruments then there would be no negativity to be critical about. The pics (both yours and mine) speak for themselves. The only difference is that I had my bass fixed, headaches and all. It is as close to perfect now as Rickenbacker is capable of.
Ric does have issues with quality control. I bought a 4003 new in 2011 that had way to many flaws and a sloppy glue job on the nut, back it went. I got another 2011 that I call flawless. I looked it over many times with a fine tooth comb and besides seeing slight bubbling on the tail piece I havent noticed any other "flaws" and everytime I read a thread like this I look it over and have for over 3 years now. I wont ever sell it as I feel lucky that this nice of a 4003 is a minority. I feel Ric just cant provide that level of detail like manufactures such as Musicman provide and that every bass they build will have slight issues. Sloppy glue jobs, runs, misaligned parts and bubbled chrome is a flaw they themselves create.
That said I will be looking into a new 4003S when they come out. I will be returning ones that have issues, I refuse to deal with Ric about fixing them and will simply return ones with issues.

All I'm saying is that there are lots of ways to be critical of something without being negative. I know because I have to remind myself of this on an almost daily basis.
Based on the level of interest, I'm betting you won't see any on open display for a while, they will all be pre-sold through dealers without ever making it onto a showroom floor. That's how it was with most 4003's until quite recently. I only started seeing 4003 available for in-store playing in the last year or two.
Think there's a chance to nab one on eBay? Where are places to make an order? I have found out the hard way a few times that I really like to play an instrument (or at least get a really good look at it) before I commit to buying.
I ordered my 4003SW from Pittsburgh Guitars. I'm seriously considering ordering a 4003S in Ruby next.
I wish I knew that 3 pre-orders were coming. I am quite interested in the Walnut version, but can't shake the GAS for a midnight blue 4003. Do I need both? We will see.
It's been awhile since I put the depost on it. I think $1375 but don't hold me to it.
They have no idea when there coming in. Give them a call. I thought about it and I think $1395.
