What should STP do now?

As many of you heard, Chester Bennington left STP last month due to continual scheduling problems between Linkin Park and STP. Now with the passing of Scott Weiland, what do you think STP should do? Find another singer or retire the band? It's got to be a tough call for the remaining pilots. As much as I would love STP to be a functioning unit, I think it might be time to retire the STP name. Very sad, they never really got to ride the peak of their creativity and success.

They should have quit the first time. I'll enjoy my recordings of the original band and leave it at that. They should have as well. It isn't very often a band is as good as the original with alternate people.

AC/DC did it. Hard to think of too many others.

I am sure that STP will continue in some fashion, they needed to find a replacement for Bennington anyways and I don't think a reunion with Weiland was in the works. Anyone that they get will have a huge task ahead of them, there's no doubt about that.

Scott's passing will no doubt lead to a morbid surge in music sales for the band. It's a very strange phenomenon that seems to happen when an artist dies. Hopefully those sales will benefit Scott's family along with the band.

As for where the band goes? It might be best to just call it a day. Anything else might be regarded as them trying to capitalize on the tragedy of Weiland's passing. If something happens organically where the band is able to hook up with a singer who works with what they do musically? Great. I think the Talk Show project that Robert, Dean and Erik took part in was actually pretty good. They're solid musicians and good songwriters. In light of what's happened with Chester leaving the band and Scott passing? I think the DeLeo brothers are self aware enough that they don't want to be perceived like other bands that have tried to plug in another singer in a succession of vocalists.

AIC has seemed to pull it off well. I'm sure STP will follow a similar strategy and will do a farewell tour with other singers until they find one who clicks, and once that happens they'll revamp the band. There is too much money to be made from the STP name and catalog, and fans genuinely still want to hear the songs live - or at least I do. I saw STP twice during their reunion tour, and the whole band was solid and exciting to see on stage.

Ditto! I'm really hopeful this will restart their career as recording artists. We need more STP records!

I agree that Scott robbed those guys of their best years but without Scott would they have even gotten to that point? He was a great frontman, not just a great vocalist.

I think Chester did an okay job and fit surprisingly well but I really think they should retire STP and let it rest, it just isn't the same without Scott. I think the DeLeo's already know that they cannot continue under a different monikor, however, as it didn't pan out so well last time. I like their open audition idea though. Some random nobody might breathe some new life back into the band.

Scott was great, but he didn't fair too well in his solo outings either. STP was truly a band in the most honest sense of the word. I would honestly like to see them do a tour with a bunch of different guest singers like AIC did. Once one begins to click they can then see about starting up again with someone new.
