At the time of his death, my grandpa was the oldest surviving member of the Chicago Firefighters Union.

The union sent a bagpiper to his funeral to proceed his casket into the church, and Amazing Grace is what the piper played.

I’d never realized how LOUD bagpipes are, and as we carried the casket into the church, the intensity of the sound became overwhelming.

17 years later, the memory still overwhelms…

I am heavily involved with my Scottish ancestry and discovered a long time ago just how loud pipes are! We have them at all of our events and I love them! Indoors, though...they are crazy loud!

This is something on my mind as too many friends and family have passed on, thinking about what kind of remembrance I would like. Music is my drug of choice and a huge part of my person. Rather than force people to listen to my own creations instead I am working on a song list or mix tape if you will of songs that inspired and touched my soul. From Bowie's "Heroes" to Prince's "Dolphin" you sorta get the idea.

Not at my funeral... but I was actually asked to play this one. A local music minister was asked and declined... she told the family that I might do it.... I figured it was one of his wishes, and when I asked the priest, he was ok with it.
