What songs are you learning/working on?

Raoul and The Kings Of Spain by Tears For Fears. Gail Ann Dorsey plays bass on the whole album, and rocks it big time on the title track. Got the notes, just working on getting it up to tempo.

I started jamming with a co-workers band who are all in their early 40's (I'm 62) so I'm having a lot of fun with these. Even though I've been a weekend warrior for years my gigging has been based around country, pop and 60's rock so it's been a welcome step outside my "comfort" zone.

It's been kind of nice to show these "young" bucks us old farts can play rock & roll and maybe even challenge them a bit.

Alice in chains, STP, Sound garden, Pearl Jam, etc are the bands that we used to cover when I first started playing in a rock band (I was a drummer then and played mostly jazz and salsa before that) Heaps of fun to play, and I'm starting to learn some PJ on bass now, I've done Jeremy, alive and black so far, also I recently learnt Vasoline.

Thanks., I appreciate the comment. Jamming with these guys has forced me to get disciplined again about developing my ear and wood shedding. It's helped me develop more ideas that are finding their way into my country project.

The truth is I had gotten pretty lazy about practicing, these guys have gotten my excited about playing again.

Really cool bass line. I've been working through "The Latin Bass Book", although only for about a month now, and one of the guys in the band says he wants to learn this song. Talk about a nice match for my studies. I'm pumped to start learning this one.

Started on fly by night by Rush. I'm not a huge Rush fan, but I thought it'd be fun to get back into playing more technical music on bass.

Stoned Love by the Supremes. Steady eighth notes with some interesting little Babbitt flourishes. And Turn Back the Hands of Time by Tyrone Davis. Funky pentatonic groove that makes the fretting hand stretch quite a bit.

 

[Nino D]

Sanitarium - Metallica and Groove Machine from Kings-X . Sanitarium is pretty tuff to sing and play.

Still working on Raoul And The Kings Of Spain by Tears For Fears, and also started working on Rio by Duran Duran. Both of these have a fairly quick tempo, so they are helping me concentrate on keeping my hands loose while playing.

That's a cool bassline! I hadn't listened to Mayer's new stuff yet, thanks for brining this to my attention.

Im working on getting Robin Thicke's blurred lines down by ear. It's not too hard to get. After that I may try my hand at James Browns "Get up offa that thing" by ear. It's going to be tough but fun!
