What Strings Do You Use On Your Fender Custom Shop?

I don't know specifically about Fender CS...but the new D'Addario NYXL strings are about the best rounds I've ever touched. i have them on my 1984 MIJ PJ....they'd be good in anything though.

My main player at the moment is a Custom Shop NOS Precision with TI Jazz flats. I tried a handful of other flats and two sets of rounds before tryin he TIs. The search ended with those. I don't plan on ever taking them off or selling thy bass.

On both my J and PJ CS basses I really like the Fodera nickle plated steel strings. They have a really nice sound especially from string to string. For me they are not too bright and not too dull for a round wound.

@BrentSimons: hard to tell for the tone, I never did any comparisons with different strings on the same bass. But for the feel: at the beginning total different to the rotos, a bit more tension, it need a few days to get comfort with them. Actually I like them a bit more than the rotos... just my subjective impression.
Give them a try, nearly the same price as rotosound.

NOS 63 P just switched from TIs to Labella LTFs. Same feel but vastly different tone. Still breaking them in though

Your post made me decide to order a set of Elites Player (nickel plated) alongside with a set of Rotosound RS66LDN.

The tricky part: what type of gauge? I currently have .045/0.65/0.85/.105 Rotos on my CS '64 Jazz. You mentioned that Elites have a bit more tension; should I go for the same gauges, or go for the lighter .040/.060/.080/.100? Are they that stiffer? Get both sets lighter if that is going to be a more fair comparison?

@Midak: as mentioned, just my subjective impressions. I'm used to play the .040/0.60/0.75/.95 Rotos and .040/0.60/0.80/.100 DRs on different basses I have or had. The Elites are the same gauge as the DRs and I had the feel, that the Elites are with a bit more tension... at least at the beginning.
My recommandation: at first try the same gauge.

Btw: you can order directly at basscentre.

Ok, I see. Do you remember if you had to adjust the neck relief after the switch to the Elites?
If they would make no difference vs the .045/0.65/0.85/.105 Rotos, I would go for the same gauge; otherwise I may go .040/0.60/0.80/.100 for both sets.

Sorry, never played other strings on that bass. Can't remember to adjust the neck, but sure for the bridge height. The first thing after I got it was to change the strings and didn't know what strings were on it.

I use Elixir nanowebs on both my FCS Jazz Basses. Not ideal but I was gigging a lot outdoors this summer, sweat was killing the hi beams so I switched and got used to them.

I have changed my CS '64 strings to Dunlop Super Bright Nickels. So much win.
