What strings for Fender Modern Player Telecaster Bass?

That's exactly where I'm at with it. All sorts of strings could sound good on that bass, and better than the factory ones. But without knowing what OP's tone goals are any suggestions are completely about what other people think sounds good, not what he wants.

Until OP can describe what he wants the strings to sound and/or feel like there's no helping him.

I have the same bass. Any idea what strings came on it from the factory? It's about time for a string change for me and I really like the sound and feel of the original strings best.
FWIW - I did slap a set of Cobalt rounds on it a few years back when they first came out and absolutely hated the sound. Ripped em back off a day later and switched to Chromes, which are ok but I like the original strings best. Unfortunately I pitched the original strings when I did the Cobalt installation so I have no idea what they were.

Maybe Fender or D'addario nickel rounds? I've never tried the Cobalt rounds but was considering trying them. What didn't you like? I love the Cobalt flats on my Ric and cv 60's pbass.

No help on strings for what your goals are, but I just wanted to say - that's about my favorite Fender product ever. I'd love to have one in sunburst finish.

You can narrow it down to a few suspects.
They were most likely Fender 7150s, 7250s, or 7350s.
Those are all rounds, in nickel, nickel plated steel and steel, respectively.
So, warm/middle/bright.
The factory gauges are almost always .105 to .045.

I just found one of these Modern Player Telecaster Basses NOS squirreled away in a warehouse somewhere and I got it for $600. Back in the 70's, I used Fender Flatwound Long Scale Light Gauge on my '72 Telecaster Bass but it always woofed, thundered and roared through that poorly placed Neck Pick-Up (and probably my poopy amp). A few years later Fender moved the pick-up to the bridge position but you almost never see these come up for sale. It was never a great sounding bass until I put a set of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 Roundwound Long Scale Standard Gauge (.105's) that it sounded good. That was about 1977 and I haven't played on Flats since except do I use LaBella or Black Diamond Tapewound Flats on my Fretless Jazz Bass. They have a nice "MUAHHHH" and they don't eat up the fingerboard.

Toss on a set of Fender 9050 Flats or GHS Precision Flats. Take your pick.

I am going with Linnin with this one. If you want 50s sound then go flats in you favorite gauge and run with it. I would go with GHS P flats, Fender flats or LaBella flats to get the vibe of that era. If you still want rounds that are close to the ones that came with it then use a set of 7250s.
