What the...Darkglass Vintage Microtubes?!?!

what would probably be best to run with a wah wah (dunlop q105) Which Dark glass would work best for semi modern heavy metal using a wah wah, like i said I may add a fuzz as well later on? play in drop c# and rarely drop c sometimes
I use a 2006 svt CL and a ampeg V4 sometimes.. Thanx,

Believe me, I'm prepared. Doug sent me a bunch of Ito En green tea which is going to come in handy since I will probably be working through Monday night to get as many as I can shipped on Tuesday.

The way the midrange is sculpted on the B3K seems to work really well for metal.

The B3K is less polite and has more metallic grind in its' upper registers. It can seem like a harsh sound, but works really well in a dense mix, or in front of a warm preamp. I love mine.

It's more of a particular sound than the warmer Vintage, which sounds "classic" out of the gate. It sounds to me like a really well-polished OCD, except with more of an "amp" sound to it.

That's my take so far:confused:

I use the B3K as an always-on pedal, with the drive all the way down, blend and level at about 2:00, attack on and grunt set to fat. It has a bit of a scooped upper mid, but it boosts the low mids and overall gives the bass a really "produced" big sounding amp tone, with added definition and just a *hint* of crunch. My down-tuned P5 with flats is a bit too thick in the mids and the B3k shines and punches it up and gets rid of the honk without changing the tone too much if that makes sense. I don't play metal and never turn the drive up, but it sounds great alone or in combination with my Oxide.

And yet, I lust after the Vintage. I will probably order one after the early adopters give their feedback on it.

forgot to mention that one dude said that with a tube amp i may hurt the sound by adding a tube emulating transistor based overdrive. however, i forgot to mention that sometimes i run a peavey BAM so i can pre set a few different EQ and phaser/chorus settings, and switch with the footpedal for it.
probably won't use the distortion on the peavey much, the phasetr sounds decent though

That's very similar to how mine is run. I have the drive usually set to around 11:00. I kind of use it a dirty boost. Then I engage another pedal for my main overdrive/fuzzy tone.

Right now in my band, I'm use the B3K to give my Demon King a little more oomph. They work perfect together.

The B3K is awesome as an overdrive and a boost. I need to try the Vintage, however.

I'm not really sure what a tube emulating overdrive is, but I pretty much only use tube amps and the Darkglass stuff sounds great through them.

I like my Microtubes' the best through my Mesa (my neighbors not so much), given that the pedals are designed to enhance a bit (and also respect and retain) the natural signal of your rig, the better sounding the amp (and the bass) the better the pedal will sound! Sound is a chain reaction says Mike Soldando.

As a side note: I can't think of anyone more obsessive about tone than Stevie Ray Vaughn, and he was famous for using an op-amp diode based overdrive (TS808) for boosting his tube amps... and so are many in the plethora of tone-obsessing-guitar-ninjas out there using solid state pedals with their tube amps with mikes welded in, and 12 rack units of power conditioning so that they sound the same everywhere (John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson come to mind).

I think mind-openness is the key to glory, specially when it comes to tone.
If you think about it the first distortions ever were implemented by curious musicians breaking the rules of what "had to sound like" left and right...

I think is always good to try something out. If works... well there you go.
