What the...Darkglass Vintage Microtubes?!?!

I had to switch from a Mesa 400+ to a Glock Blue Soul when we had quints, last year (I say that like Glockenklang is a bad thing....). I can attest that my sound is closer to that tube OD tone I'm used to when I use the B3K. I wouldn't call it a "tube emulator" but it does have kinda do some things that get close. It certainly wouldn't be overkill with a tube amp. At least it wasn't with my 400+.

How do you like that Glockenklang by the way? I haven't had a chance to try them yet!

It's pretty amazing.

The amount of lows is insane. Especially with my fEARful cab. My B string is just as clear and articulate as my higher ones. A really weird combination of dark, warm, huge presence, with light, articulate, and good hifi full rangeness. When it comes to the dirt, I miss the all tube Mesa but the B3K and Myco Three take care of that. And it's only 11 pounds and fits in my backpack. :ninja:

I like my Microtubes' the best through my Mesa (my neighbors not so much), given that the pedals are designed to enhance a bit (and also respect and retain) the natural signal of your rig, the better sounding the amp (and the bass) the better the pedal will sound! Sound is a chain reaction says Mike Soldando.

As a side note: I can't think of anyone more obsessive about tone than Stevie Ray Vaughn, and he was famous for using an op-amp diode based overdrive (TS808) for boosting his tube amps... and so are many in the plethora of tone-obsessing-guitar-ninjas out there using solid state pedals with their tube amps with mikes welded in, and 12 rack units of power conditioning so that they sound the same everywhere (John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson come to mind).

I think mind-openness is the key to glory, specially when it comes to tone.
If you think about it the first distortions ever were implemented by curious musicians breaking the rules of what "had to sound like" left and right...

I think is always good to try something out. If works... well there you go.

still not sure what would be better for heavy metal type bass boost, like audio slave, velvet revolver, pantera etc.. sounds like the bk3 may be best according to what a few people have said

To me, the Audio Slave grit is pretty different from Pantera. I think the vintage would give more of the midrange and warmth I hear in Tim's tone.

I'm not sure about Duff's sound these days, but I always thought he was more of a clean miked amp tone kind of guy without full on distortion , and again vintage would be better since it's low level if anything. Edit: I take that back, he's using more grit than he did with Guns, but again it still sounds vintage and warm.

I really like my B3k and sometimes think it's close to Rex on the beginning of "Use my Third Arm" or something.
