What the...Darkglass Vintage Microtubes?!?!

Wondering what dirt/distortion/fuzz you guys are combining with your vmt and whether you go
dirt -> vmt
vmt -> dirt

I can't wait to band test my TFR going into VMT. Sounds very old school, a bit more smooth and with more mids, less highs, and a bit more focused. Really wondering how it will work in band mix. I had to raise the TFR tone knob from what I'd have it without VMT to get the tone I like the best.

I don't stack dirt pedals but rather like it if each pedal has its own sound that suits a group of songs, but maybe I should try it. Don't really know if I should look for even more options though, it's too much knob twiddling with one pedal at the time as it is. :)

I find it usually works better in front of other dirt and fuzzes...except for the TFR. Maybe I didn't get the right settings, but it seemed to drive the clipping too much on the Tall Font. Wren and Cuff pedals IME are very reactive to different input levels (even different volume settings from your bass will give different tones), so maybe that has something to do with it. Also, those are two of the most low end heavy pedals I've had. Definitely shaking a room with those two.

Question to all you VMT-owners: does it warm up your sound?

I have the B3K and B7K and they are absolutely amazing pedals, but do very little to warm up my sound. They do an incredible job retaining the tone, but I'm looking for something that will warm it up without altering the tone drastically. I have a Sansamp BDDI that warms up nicely, however it colors the sound too much. Is the VMT what I am looking for? Hopefully, 'cause I just ordered one...

I guess you will find out soon enough. :) I personally find that it breaks up a bit quickly. That is to say it doesn't have the gentle response to playing dynamics I was hoping for. That said it does sound awesome and how it acts will depend on many things like the instrument, EQ, playing style etc.

I'm stoked for you to have an all Darkglass board as well! I'm using a prototype of the fuzz at my gig tonight so we'll see how it goes. I know Doug has been doing a lot of tweaking based on my feedback from the first prototype so I might be in for a surprise when I get the final schematic.

He is using the B3k. I think his comment was something to the affect of It's a safe pedal. Don't quote me on that. But I kinda thought that as well. And I know he is not a fan of clean blend. But the B3K has so many different voices and vibes. I remember thinkin that it was a safe pedal as well. Then I got a B7K and was blown away. I'm leaving for tour in a few weeks. I have no idea which bass Im taking. But I know the B3K and VMT will be on at every show.

Have a great gig spencer. Hope that fuzz sounds amazing.
