I think it's a "chick" switch, once you see the girls not paying attention to the bass player, you activate the switch. The females will be attracted to the red glow and stand in front of the bass player for the rest of the gig.

I think it turns the guitarist's amp down by 20dB. At least, I've always wanted a switch that did that.

Either that or it turns the bass player cloaking device off. You know, when you want bar staff to notice you're trying to order a beer.

I did some crack investigative top level double secret talkbass detective work and found where the switch came from. It was on the right of this .... the flux capacitor.

Don't know nuthin 'bout no mystery switches..
BUT
If it's anything like my Korean P Bass:
A) Get it. Neck is FAST
B) Current Crop of Pickguards might not fit over your Squier pickup.
Cover Ears are too big.
And screw holes..
Hit or miss.
No problem.
Round file etc. New screw holes. Or newer style/standard pickup covers.
In my case, it gave me an excuse to get a replacement pickup & woah it was a new really good bass after that.
Choice is yours but if you're on the cheap I found an Entwistle PBXN Neodymium to be good. I put a Duncan SPB-2 in mine & use Stainless strings. Great. YMMV.
PS --I'm outside of Sacramento & MY pickguard was cracked, too..

Ya'll got it all wrong!!!
It's a "I'm too drunk to play" switch.

In the "ON" position, it kills the pickups, and plays a recording of the last time you played the song correctly.
It keeps you from looking like a tool when you're sounding like a fool.
