What the heck is this mod?

assuming I drop the switch?
Depending on what's going on under that pick guard, you shouldn't have to do that much on the rewiring side of things. If your real lucky, the pots are not scratchy and are solidly connected, and (more luck involved here) the red switch connects to nothing...
If that's all true, you should be able to go to someone like pickguaridan and get pretty much whatever you want by bass model. Will take half an hour to change it out tops.

I saw an add in the local for a Squier PBass and took a better look at the pictures (which I hope that I have posted here!). It looks like someone took a late 90's Korean Squier and monkeyed around with the electronics - the knobs definitely look different and there is a flap-switch kinda thing in between what I assume are still the volume and tone knobs. I am thinking of getting it out of curiosity, if I can get the price down. I haven't played it either - its a little out of my usual area.
The owner hasn't responded back to my questions so I thought I would turn to TB - who have never let me down.
Auto Destruct. Obviously...

Sorry for the thread derailment...

I really like what you've done here, both on this bass and the purpose behind your builds in general. I just spent a bit browsing your site. Really great concept!

Who am I to judge regarding switches ?

I try to run in the down position mostly

That’s easy, it’s the big switch mod.
It was fairly common back when your oscillation overthruster had to be switched on manually. It needed the big switch to handle the current required to bring the OO up to speed without sounding like a really big cow flatulating through a four foot length of two inch PVC pipe, but once the sub crainial implant was developed and users could use brain waves to power up an OO, the popularity of the big switch mod waned. the true death knell however, came with the introduction of the anti flatulance software patch, more popularly known as the AFSPOS (anti flatulance software power on switch). Once this was introduced and the early spontaneous involuntary twitching bugs were ironed out, the death warrant had truly been signed on the Big Switch mod.
As happens so often in music, about ten years after the Big Switch Mod disappeared, some of the younger up and coming bass players rediscovered the big switch mod and spent big bucks searching out old maunal overthrusters and a short revival of the mod ensued. To this day the debate still continues over which is the truer, more authentic OO sound, pre or post AFSPOS. Those involed in these rather lively discussions often possess a fervor not unlike a devout religious belief in their feelings regards the ongoing debate over cow farts, better or no?
See you on the interwebs. :D
