what type of music?

so, i have been reading a lot of these threads about pedals, and people have some pretty huge pedal rigs, with a ton of stuff, but it left me thinking: what type of music are these guys playing?

so, i'm just wondering, what type of music are you guys using these huge pedal rigs with? it is fusion? solo bass trickery? rock?

would be interesting for people to mention their pedal rig, along with the type of music they use it for.

i'll start:

bass >> boss OC2 >> zvex wooly mammoth >> moogerfooger lpf >> ??? (this is the part of my chain i am rebuilding... will be a delay, another drive pedal, and maybe modulation...)

anyway, i use that rig for live electronic music and will be using it in the future with my rock band (i have some electronic textures i need to recreate from the upcoming LP)

My band board is quite minimal

Bass - A/B Box (So I can Switch basses fast) this box then has a loop that all the effects are in - Peterson Strobe O Stomp - Subdecay Noise Box - Boomstick Bottom Feeder - Tonefactor Pulp Mill with bass mod - Tone Factor Cream Pie. The loop ends and goes to an A/B/Y section of this custom switcher so that I can select channels on my Mesa Boogie 400+

It's very minimal really as I've got a tuner there, compressor and boost the only real effects are the Bottom Feeder which I use during bits where I have to play clean on my own in a song but want it to sound a little bit different and the Noise box which is used for intros and things on a few tracks. As for all my other pedals, I've been playing bass for over 10 years now and while running around on stage half naked playing root notes is fun it can get boring so I have another board to inspire me for home practice, jamming with friends, song writing.

This jamming board as I call it has got loads of really wierd noise effects on it, protoypes etc and other misc bits and bobs but it also has the pedals I love the most that don't fit in what my band is doing right now and I have made the boards so that I can join them together at a moments notice and then it becomes more of a Justin Mendal Johnson type affair where there are loads of effects that cover pretty much everything and anything I might be asked to play.

The beauty of this setup is when I go and practice just me and the drummer I can make it sound like it's not just me and the drummer there and it we can play for hours with out getting bored or rehashing the same old ideas and this is always a good thing.

I am setting up an emergency rig for when I go on tour in japan later this year it will be named "The Airport lost my pedalboard pedalboard" This will basically feature a Cream Pie gaffer'd to the top of a Radial DI

My board is growing more and more... Akai Deep Impact, and variwah coming. Big muff left, but is coming back twice!!!

For the past 4 years I've used a Digitech BNX-3 for compression, overdrive, chorus, octaver, switchable EQ, noise gate, and the occasional slight pitch shift (for a doubling effect). The built-in tuner's nice, too.

I use it for rock and metal, although I could see myself doing the same for most styles, and I always use them somewhat sparingly.

I'm looking to replace the above with an assortment of singles for a variety of reasons, but the fuction(s) will be same.

Not gonna lie, I don't need the majority of that for what I do, but it's fun. Especially since I play the guitar solo for "Like A Stone".

My big board only comes out for jamming, and a project I'm working on that isn't quite a full band , yet. When it is, it'll be a very synthy trippy rock thing. The regular cover band, well I hardly use any pedals, cept for some od.

I have a VFB blending a proco turborat with a GEB-7 with my clean tone, going into a boss ME-50B, which I use mainly the octaver, flanger, delay, chorus, and a couple dist/fuzz settings, and occasionally the wah pedal. I'm in a band doing half covers half originals, most of covers of which are on the slightly wackier side, not so much top 40 hits so much as interesting but fairly well known songs we like. As far as the originals, were very experimental, always trying anything out. Lots of the time when writing I just stick to my uneffected tone, but as a song fleshes out I usually incorporate a few effects into it. sometimes I just turn everything on and mess around.

I've never really been a huge effects guy but I've been writing a lot (alt/indie/Brit-pop) with a friend lately and I really want to be a trio only. Because of that, I've been looking into some effects that will allow me (the bass player) to fill more space and occupy more of the frequency spectrum.

I do mostly solo bass. I've also used my effects in the other bands I've been involved with, they were goth/metal, goth/industrial, and dance/metal bands.

My board has two different configurations depending on which project I'm doing at that moment. I'm in a modern rock/metal cover band for which I use this setup:

Bass -> Boss PSM-5 loop -> EHX SEM -> Boss PH-3 -> back to PSM-5 -> ART A/B/Y switch ->
(A) -> Behringer BDI21 -> amp imput 1.
(B) -> 105Q -> Boss SD-1 -> Turbo Rat -> Boss LMB-3 -> amp input 2

I also have an experimental electronic/ambient/techno project for which I use this setup:

Bass -> EHX Mini Q-Tron -> EHX BMS -> EHX SEM -> Boss PH-3 -> Devi Ever BIT -> Devi Ever Aenima -> Mid-Fi Glitch Computer -> Boss LMB-3 -> Behringer BDI21 -> amp -> effects loop out to mixer (i.e. I'm only using the preamp to bring the signal up to line level, I'm not using the power amp at all)

Also, occasionally I will run this signal into the external input of an Access Virus Kb synth, then to the mixer.

I don't like to limit myself to specific genres, but I do have a funk bass background. I'm hoping that somewhere in the grand scheme of things, I can justify my effects-heavy sound in a hip-hop environment.

I am currently playing mainly contemporary christian/worship music in a live setting and then jamming rock/metal stuff in practice and with friends.

My small board is Bass-BSW-LBM-Ibanez PD7-Boss Chorus-Boss flanger-Boss Phaser-volume-Delay-compressor-amp. My much larger board is only about half complete and still needs a lot more stuff.

I started picking up pedals after expanding my musical tastes and listening to some new things. Also, talkbass has done a great job of fueling my GAS.

After 10 years of plucking away at G, C, and D for almost every worship song, it is extremely refreshing to add some different textures with pedals. It gets me back into the music, feeling things out, and experimenting.

some of the pedals need upgrading, and of course, the board needs to grow!

i have added a LBM, MXR Distortion III, or EHX Metal muff (the big one!) between the Blowtorch and HM2, and have been putting a marshall echohead after the Meatbox, and before the VXL.

I play in a variety of styles, and have to cover anything from 80's synthy bass parts, thru funky slapping type things thru to industrial/goth/electro and my church commitments - meaning i need a lot of sounds available. I do have a slightly downsized board for when i can't be bothered to carry the big boy, which consists of : a tu2 to LBM to Weeping demon to MXR M80 (and occasionally a marshall comp and/or my Tone factor fuzzsaw, not forgetting the old BC5 ibanez soundtank bass chorus!)

I'm into playing electronica and rock mainly. I am not in a band at the moment, although I have a few projects in the works. So at the moment I'm really a bedroom player .

My rig is Foxrox Octron > Tonefactor Cream Pie Deluxe > BJFE Blueberry > Tonefactor Huckleberry > Chunk Systems Brown Dog > Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk Mark II > Tonefactor 442 > Maxon PH-350 > Boss BF-2 > Roland Jet Phase.

So you can probably tell I can get quite a wide range of tone from this. From synthy to overdriven to modulated.

I play in a rock and roll covers band playing everything from early country rock and roll through to modern day punk. also thrown in is pink floyd, soul and rhythm and blues.
i play with a Line 6 bass podxt live with the extra extension pedal which suits me fine as i have all the set ups i need saved on about 8 banks. the added feature of having bass amp modelling really helps to get the right sound for the band.

you guys will probably slate me for having a multi effects rig but i find its easier to gig with.

Its not really physically on a board, but the signal when jamming has tended to be this lately...

I think a vibrato is the next thing to add in since I've been listening too way too much Boards of Canada lately.

I play mainly with a synth player and drummer, but also range from rock to "noisier" weird stuff. Not surprisingly I pretend to be a synth about half the time, although I always have trouble figuring out what to call what we play.

Not really even close to being one of the monster boards on here, but thought I'd jump in anyway.

The band I'm in might be post-grind? It's techy and stuff, but there's lots of industrial elements to be had. A lot of those elements come from my effects setup, which is:

Bass-->Foxrox Octron-->Ashdown Bass Drive Plus-->Robot Factory Pulse Synth-->Devi Ever SM-->preamp-->MAM Warp 9-->Roland SDE-1000-->poweramp.

Lots of nasty synthy goodness and glitchy freakouts to be had.
